You have a doctor’s note? If yes, then there is nothing to ask. You are out sick. If not, does your company allow you to take one sick day without it?
I’m an employee and a boss. The correct thing to do here would be going to the doctor on Monday or Tuesday and get a note for an entire week. No prior note and saying you will be sick on Sunday is kind of weird. The overly dramatic reaction of your boss is overly dramatic and passive aggressive.
I wouldn’t say you did something wrong, you just aren’t making the best impression here. (Neither is your employer).
Normally you don’t call in early when sick unless you have a doctor note. If you do, I would start off by saying: I’m not feeling well, I don’t know if I’ll make Sunday since I’ve been sick for a few days. Then on Sunday morning hit them up with a message you are too sick.
You were sick the entire week, didn’t you visit a doctor? If you did, he must have given you time to recover at home. Just use the note with your employer.
Just tell him: bye. Enough nicer places to work as a student, fuck that guy

You dont ask for sick leave, you take it. Ofcourse you have to follow the rules regarding doctors note and whatever is written down as company rule.
I also understand your boss his reaction. Its weird to say you are going to be sick in the future. 2 days in advance. Doesn’t make sense. ( I assume you dont have a doctors note yet, that includes Sunday?)
The other reaction from your boss, is besides the point of your illness. Not giving my opinion on that.
Lesson learned, you call in sick on sunday morning.

Zal hier wrs gedownvote worden maar ik geef je baas gelijk. Dit soort werknemers ben je liever kwijt als bedrijf want men kan gewoon niet rekenen op je.
Had je nu nog gezegd, “baas ik ben nog ziek maar ik hoop dat ik zondag kan komen werken. Ik laat je voor x tijdstip iets weten” dat had een andere boodschap geweest, dan bereid je hem voor.
In de toekomst zeg je beter geen zo’n domme dingen..
Zeg gewoon: Dag *naam van persoon*, ik ben ziek en zal niet aanwezig zijn zondag. Met vriendelijke groeten, *uw naam*.
En zorg voor een doktersbriefje.

Allereerst bedankt voor de zorgzame woorden. Ik ook hoop dat ik snel genezen ben. Ik dacht pro actief te reageren maar uit jouw antwoord kan ik afleiden dat je liever hebt dat ik de ochtend zelf me pas ziek meld zodat je zeker geen oplossing voor die dag kan vinden. Uiteraard heb ik ook begrepen dat u mij enorm nodig hebt maar wel geen probleem heeft mij te ontslaan. Ik zou je aanraden ook eens ziekteverzuim te nemen wat zulke bipolair denken is ook zorgzaam. Veel beterschap baas en tot volgende week.

I would be full of joy if someone gave a heads-up they were most likely not going to be in. That allows to adjust the planning and anticipate. Now they call in sick hours after they should have been there… 🫠
You could have said “most likely not be able to work this Sunday” but even without that I would have understood the reason of sending the message early.
Do you have a doctor’s note? If you do: fuck them.
If not (and assuming that’s allowed in your company): why are you informing them so early? Just call in sick on the day, or at most day-1.

Iemand met een beetje empathie had je niet zo afgesnauwd. Jammer dat zoveel mensen in deze thread zeggen dat jij een fout maakt door zo te communiceren.
Twee tips: Ga ermee naar de vakbond en begin met ander werk zoeken. (En ga zondag zeker niet werken. Ga naar de dokter voor een doktersattest.)

What’s the dependency between being sick during the week and not able to work next days? Do you have a doctor’s note until sunday then it’s covered otherwise I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to work

It’s a shop, and it’s the busiest time of the year. So, it seems quite normal that your boss gets upset on Friday. From the texts I’ve seen, I imagine you’re relatively new and probably your first job. You sent the wrong text. You shouldn’t have said you were sick for an entire week. You should have said you’re sick and can’t come because it doesn’t make sense what you wrote. There’s no mention of you still being sick in the initial message. What I read in the initial text is that you were sick all week, are feeling better, and are giving no reason why you can’t show up on Sunday. “Ziek geweest” means you’re not sick anymore. 😉

Volgende keer zeg je op zaterdag : “ik wás al de hele week ziek en het wordt alleen maar erger, ik voel me steeds heel beroerd, jammer genoeg gaat het mij morgen niet lukken om op de werkvloer te staan. Ik moet ook niemand komen aansteken. Dank voor uw begrip” Afhankelijk van hoe ziek je dan bent is een doktersattest dan misschien wel aangewezen.
Léren mensen aanvoelen en uw uitleg op die manier aanpassen is key🤭

I don’t know how many managers are like this but it isn’t the way things should go. Some are great, others are small minded, take everything personal and react emotional to things.
The sooner you learn this the better. So take it as a learning experience: you can’t do good for some people. Don’t let that get you down. It’s a them problem.
I experience the exact same shit with my boss and im a student aswell.
Als het een tijdelijk contract is, kan de werkgever het contract niet verlengen na afloop van de overeenkomst. Dat hoeft hij niet te verantwoorden. Als hij je contract verbreekt door ziekte en jij hebt een doktersattest voor de hele periode, dan is hij in de fout en moet hij je loon waarborgen voor de duur van je contract.
Ik vind je bericht naar je baas veel te kort en te vaag. Ik begrijp de reactie van je baas wel. Geef hem een update: ‘Dag baas, probeer al 5 dagen uit te zieken, maar het wordt eigenlijk erger. Vandaag ga ik opnieuw naar de huisarts. Ik vermoed dat ik het hele weekend thuis gezet ga worden, dus vandaar mijn update. Ik hou je op de hoogte. Mijn excuses.’…
Enigste wat je “fout” hebt gedaan is de verwoording.
Je schreef “ik ben ziek geweest” ipv “ik ben ziek en wil je op de hoogte brengen dat je mogelijk vervanging moet zoeken voor mij om deze zondag te werken. Ik laat u x tijdstip weten of ik me beter voel” en bij die x tijdstip zet je bvb zaterdagavond of zondagochtend.
Voor de rest, zeker wegwezen daar want lijkt wel alsof het niet goed gaat en de baas zijn frustraties op u uit
I never had a job where being sick is a problem. Sometimes to my annoyance, I have several “kortjakje” colleagues that I’m sure call in sick when they don’t feel like working. Up to the point where you can accurately predict when they will be sick. The only response they get is “get better soon”.
As much as I’m sure they are not really sick, it’s really none of anyone’s business but theirs.

“Ik kan zondag niet komen werken” klinkt heel definitief. Volgende keer meer in de trant zeggen van: “Ik ben al heel de week ziek en voel nog geen verbetering, de kans zit er in dat ik zo dag niet kan komen werken”
