So the Guardian are saying that racism works? Very interesting.

oh nooo, looks like the hiring companies will have to hire and train domestic nurses instead of relying on cheap international labour and not letting domestic nurses have jobs oh nooooo

Not condoning racism at all but hopefully this means they have to start increasing wages and paying nurses fairly instead of relying on immigration.

Surely the NHS being on its knees, understaffed, unmanageable pressure, high rates of sickness, unfit for purpose management, poor working conditions, low salaries and non existent perks for the job has nothing to do with it.

That’s a shame for Serco, now they can’t place more self-employed undertrained hospital staff instead of training domestic staff.

Comments are already as depressingly racist and reform flavoured as expected. Normally it takes a little bit longer.

Having worked for the NHS I can tell you that more and more people find it less appealing because of the pressure advantage taking and poor conditions.

Long odd hour shifts for not a great pay out being abused and assaulted by patients who think they know better. Complete destruction of family life and relationships with no time to socialize.

It’s becoming a job no one wants or not many would recommend and here we are with the issue again.

But….. Skin colour trumps all for the comments here . “Racism words” a truly disappointing take

Might have something to do with stripping the NHS bare and then setting tax traps. But hey.

y NOTHING TO DO WITH THE Pay and lack of jobs. What a load of crap coming from the Guardian as usual.

Recruitment from overseas should be a last resort. Focus on why UK citizens don’t want to be nurses.

  9. Ahhh so it’s not Farage and his followers good to know 🤦‍♂️

People will simultaneously complain about low pay for nurses and then complain about their taxes going up

My partner is a nurse, luckily she’s worked on the same ward years now but she showed me the NHS job portal the other day and there is literally 0 nurses jobs in our REGION… Not town, entire region.

I suspect that’s why foreign nurses aren’t getting brought over.

Two newly qualified nursing positions had over 500 applicants last month. We stand no chance at getting a job. There’s a shortage of nurses but what they don’t tell you is that the shortage isn’t mainly due to no applications but because there’s no money to hire them.

Saying that we need to train more homegrown nurses isn’t going to fix anything. The only jobs I see going are for experienced nurses and they get them from abroad as a lot of our experienced nurses are retiring, and with very little money they cannot afford to train newly qualified nurses.

Is the rising racism also stopping non-white British trained nurses from training in the NHS or just the foreign one’s? And are the foreign ones white European or other ethnicities?

  14. ExpertSausageHandler on

I’m sorry but the NHS does not *need* an endless influx from abroad if we sort out remuneration for healthcare workers properly.

We have plenty of fucking people living here, enough with this bullshit.

    Good.

British nurses studying in university and/or being funded by the NHS to go to university are struggling to find nursing jobs because we are hiring too many foreign nurses.

My local NHS trust didn’t put anybody on the recent intake of September students at the university because they know this.

We need to look after our own.
