      If saving lives was the legitimate interest they would return those they pick up to the port of origin. Instead of returning them to the nearest port they ferry them across the mediterranean, encouraging more to attempt the trip.

      Picking them up and returning them is not a crime. They can do that if they wish and save as many lives as they want and never risk prosecution.

      It’s easy to be an activist … it’s harder to put the people up in your own gaff.

      It’s a bit rich to facilitate illegal immigration into the state, and then just hand the illegal immigrants off to the state to say “they’re your problem now”. Put them up in your gaff. Feed and water them. If you’re not prepared to take randos into your gaff individually, why should you expect for us all to do it collectively ?
