What are they planning? What will they do if there is a major war?

  2. irreplacable_fker on

You better have some knowledge on how to use a rifle because if a war breaks out you will be sent to the front regardless.

Who would have thought? Decades of vilifying patriotism and equating it to chauvinism leads to this. It’s over.

  4. hellranger788 on

It’s a difficult subject. No one wants to be conscripted, but I imagine being invaded would suck even more

  5. LittleSchwein1234 on

Based. Military conscription is a gross violation of human dignity and rights.

  6. Virtual7192 on

Why would you fight for your country to be given over to migrants. No thanks.

  7. AdorableAnubis on

    Completely understandable.

Military service takes a full year or more from your life and disrupts or derails your plans for education, cutting into possible paths like studying and building a successful future. Since it pulls you out of your routine at a critical stage, it forces you to pause your studies, lose academic momentum, delay your qualifications, and completely rebuild your path afterwards that you have been preparing your entire life for.

I was lucky enough to be born a year where i missed the draft in my country, and had i done it i would have hated my life so much i would never had managed to make it to where i am now. I understand this is worrying times, but at the same times it steals and at least partly destroys the future for many young people

It’s either that… or potentially being invaded, although there should also be military service for everyone, not just for men… we’re in the 21st century, people…

western countries invited millions millions of alienating foreigners while constantly berating the natives, they are in for a rude awakening regarding the willingness of people to fight

As a swiss growing up in the city i can see why. but there also a lot of half-truth and straight up BS bei g told about what a service time is like. i changed my mind while serving. i had been given the chance to join the medics, since i wasn‘t interested of big boom and kicking doors. there is plenty of roles one can do and even learn skills. i even tell my god son living in london with swiss passport, to come and do it.

So this is now making headlines in orbán’s state media. Of course with the message that the West is preparing for and fueling war.

What baffles me is that all those braindead boomers who take up most of his supporters, for years and years were saying shit like “today’s youth would benefit from *compulsory* conscription, like we have back in the day”.

But now of course they’re against this, even if it’s voluntary.

It is truly sad but amazing how politics and propaganda can virtually drive people insane and rob them of their identity.

German youth have no fucking clue about anything that is happening in Europe, it looks like. Good luck to all of us with this type of youth around Europe. We are in deep shit anyway, and now this. Unfortunately, history just repeats itself, over and over again. I guess, these people are not interested in security, safety, and have not learn a single flying fuck about the previous wars. Well done, everyone.

Who would’ve thought that fucking over the younger generations for decades in favour of the older ones will not make them happy to die for the country fucking them over.

  15. OwlSlow1356 on

sure, the streets are full with riots :)) the country is in shambles about the subject :)) stop posting propaganda columns from wannabe websites :))

It’s a tough one. 2 years ago I’d also said “no” to all of this. But we (Europe) need to be more prepared. If it’s not for going to an actual war, it’s to make Putin & Trump clear that we can’t be ignored and are a force to be reckoned with. A European army or European alliance army should be bigger and better than it is today.

As an exchange student I still remember the looks and laughter from the Dutch, Germans and Italians when I told that it’s completely normal in Finland to do a full year of military service straight out of High school and it’s kind of a no brainer for most of the young people.

They laughed that the Finns are fucking stupid for having a mandatory military service and were paranoid about Russians and Putin. Finland doesn’t even have any oil! Why would the Russians be interested in Finland?!

    This was 10 years ago.

I tried to explain that there’s an active war involving Russia and their neighbour *right now* in Eastern Europe. Nope, still stupid.

For the Dutch I said that if their eastern neighbour would ever try invading them again it would be game over in less than 24 hours. So better to stick to something else than trying soldiering. I still stand by that.

I don’t know whose laughing now. Not the Finns.

  18. Dyyyyyyyyy on

As a finn I would like the german youth to take a Map, and then look at that big, rapidly expanding area called Russia, and then wake the fuck up.

  19. Simfer_678 on

Strong military is an important thing. But It should be mandatory for both men and women. Same rights = same responsibilities.

  20. Hungbunny88 on

The european army is not to protect an exterior threat … it will be used for internal conflicts and populace revolts.

  21. Professional-Two5532 on

Why are so many Europeans so soft. Conscription have been a non issue in the Nordic’s for decades

  22. Take these youths protesting at the slightest inconvenience,

add hypothetical USA decision to not sell ammunition for all their weaponry that EU bought already or buying right now,

add a fact that without USA’s airforce EU won’t have anything close to the air superiority,

add deep rooted chauvinism from Western EU population that <<Baltics, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria aren’t “true” EU and Nato members>> so they are not worth to be sent dying for, when Russia attacks

add fifth column of Putinversteher in your politician class and alike, that do everything they can to keep Russian money flow in their pockets

Take all this and you’ll begin to see why Russians see you as weak targets, that will surrender after first shots fired.

It’s insane that people don’t realize what freedom costs? You want peace in your country? You have to be willing to defend it.

  24. AlexNachtigall247 on

The problem is, this generation is completely fucked. Covid hit when they turned 12, instead of taking out a girl the first time they had to stay home for months, had to keep distance, etc. Now they find themselves in a heavy economic downturn… On top of that they are now told that they can be drafted. It’s understandable they are not ok with this…

  25. letthetreeburn on

Turns out regularly fucking over the youth doesn’t inspire the most confidence.

“Go, young man, and die for the pensioners who voted you out of ever owning a home!”

2600€/month for 6 months of moderate PT is a hella good offer fresh out of school. Apprenticeship wages can’t compare.
