If the government allows Uber to operate like they do in most of the world the Irish consumers will be the winners.

Dublin Taxi drivers. AKA the worst taxi drivers. The lads round my way are sound and even carry mams shopping up to the door for her.

We need waymo here ASAP, taxi drivers have been due their day of reckoning for decades

Taxi drivers can get fucked! Nasty breed of people endangering every other road user! Pricks

  5. Honestly I didn’t know about Uber’s fixed prices until they protested. Feels like they shot themselves in the foot.

Got in taxi from airport last night. The guy had already loaded the meter.

4 euro extra when we only had 2 people including me anc didnt go through the toll.

I said it to him and he made some excuse, I corrected him and only then did he correct it.

Maybe offer both taxis and proper Uber / Bolt in Ireland. See how that works out for them.

How does it work, are they obligated to use Uber. I wasn’t happy with eir broadband, I didn’t renew, is that an option for them?

The Uber vs Taxi Driver dispute is one of the few conflicts where I’m passionately rooting for them both to lose.

I’m honestly sick of tired of people blaming taxi drivers. I don’t buy the fact that they are ‘greedy’. Its a load of rubbish. Uber is an extractive middle-man that contributes nothing – yet takes a huge percentage of the fare from drivers. Of course they’re going to increase their fares, what else are they supposed to do? Work underpaid?

To see people speak of working people this way, it’s just a joke.

Got a taxi in Derry yesterday and went about 5 mile £8. Gave him a tenner. Nice fella

Fuck the taxi drivers. It’s a business in a free market, not a charity.

Lots of people had no idea about uber fixed pricing. It’s kind of ironic how their stupid protesting of an app is becoming free advertising for Uber…

Another good taxi “process” I experienced at the airport.

    – Arrive at the car with bags. Lad turns the meter on while he supervises the bag being put in. Technically legal
    – Get in the car
    – Where you going?
    – Give address
    – No give me your eircode
    – Give Eircode quickly. I feel most people would not have it to hand
    – Ahh you must have it wrong try again while putting it into google maps with no results
    – 2/3 min pass of this back an forth
    – Just drive on will you. Meter already running
    – Driver gets going and after 5 mins turns the internet back on his phone

All that BS and must have added like 2/3 euro to the meter

Serious question, why cant we have true ride sharing in this country?

Hopefully they both go to hell and government will wake up that there is a need to improve public transport but who are we kidding, fuck doing that in Ireland.

Taxi driver on Newstalk said they should all just delete the app, problem solved.

  18. they don’t deserve to be on the roads at all, should all be replaced with dumb ai soon hopefully. they are the worst drivers out there and absolutely inconsiderate as all hell to anyone else on the roads. saw one tailgating a young driver yesterday, 5m behind them on an open road

  19. TurkeyPigFace on

I don’t really understand at all. What do the taxi drivers want the government to do? They tried to make their own app and that failed. They signed up to Uber. Now they are against the fixed charges. Simply stop using Uber if you don’t like it.

I don’t think they have the support of the public at all so not sure what they actually can achieve here.

Fair play Uber. About time these animals were prevented from ripping us all off.

Someone with the knowledge should post a run down of what to look for on the meters so we can identify when we’re being scammed by these lads.
