More people will already know his work than they realise. He captured a certain side of Britain that was simultaneously cruel, accurate, comedic, disdainful and compelling.
I also think though that he could captured a side Britain that could be cheap, gaudy, tacky and a whole lot of fun. I went on holiday to the seaside every year as a kid around the same time he was taking his New Brighton photos, they absolutely capture early 80s summer holidays for me.
I know he can be a bit divisive and was looked down upon for a good while, but I think he really had an eye for the slightly ridiculous and showed how we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously.
