It’s no different for older people. It’s shite all round
Civil service recruitment is an option. Garda and defence forces are options. Particularly the latter and the Navy. €38K after training.
5% answers back! Those are amazing numbers. Not a youth and the % answering back is around ~~1-2~~ 1%.
If you are applying for 100 then I highly doubt you’ve put much time in each application. Sorry to be cynical but im guessing alot of these applications are on Indeed or something where it takes 2 minutes to apply.
Nothing shocking here really, yes you need some sort of skill or qualification to get a job as the basic no skill jobs are getting automated.
I run my own business. When we’re hiring, it’s posted in the vacancies section of the website. There is a clear note on the page stating that applications will only be responded to if there is a current vacancy advertised.
Despite that, I still get CVs sent in, portfolios, emails and phone calls on a regular basis, none of which I respond to as I don’t have the time.
I’ve also been on the other side of the fence – job hunting and getting zero responses, so I know what that is like too.
>It used to be you just had to have a Junior Cert but now you need your traditional Leaving Cert. Certainly you need the maths, and a lot of employers are looking for them to already have their full, clean driving licence. Starting off, that’s too much to ask.”
The reason why builders now mainly want their apprentice to have the done the leaving cert is that it proves they can take instructions and do as they are told.
Like if a lad cant follow the rules in school, or do as teachers say, they wont last on a large building site.
Given that companies have to respond to GDPR requests, isn’t there some mechanism that we could or should enforce about company communications?
Why shouldn’t people be told “you haven’t been selected”?
Life is tough for every generation in different ways
In college, final year, get my CV together and then honestly hoping I end up winning the job lottery, otherwise go into construction I guess?

That’s everywhere. Most jobs postings are to make the company look like they’re growing, scrape your data, or to pressure current staff to not look for proper raises.
Honestly the amount of begging you have to do to get a minimum wage job is a fucking joke , Want an opportunity to work at macdonalds? Well, fill out a literal personality test LMAO, write a unique cover letter and tell us how it’s been your dream since you were born to flip burgers, you might get the job , no guarantees after all that …
85% of cv applications I see in my place I just laugh at.
Sure tell us how it’s impossible to get a job, but when you do tell us- show us how you’re trying alongside.
The amount of young lads who cannot spell, string a sentence together, or give any decent information in their CVs is actually comical.
Last one I read had “I’m no hear to take the piss” on his CV. That’s taking the piss already- NEXT
They need to legislate for what employers have to do when someone applies for a job. There’s an EU directive that you have to list the salary now which is good but there needs to be a framework for how many rounds of interviews is allowed and how long you can go before giving someone a decision because some of the carry on I see is ridiculous
