considerando che utilizzano sempre più spazio pubblico, sono veloci, o più veloci, come uno straccio, perché la bicicletta non dovrebbe richiedere targa e patente di guida? soprattutto l’ebike e le altre bici di grandi dimensioni. Are they?
And are 20min voter a key group?
The 45kmh ones already have one
Because we should have more people on bikes not less. Getting a licence is just gonna motivate less people to ride. Also a lot of people have multiple bikes, roadbike, mountainbike, gravelbike, citybike.
Why ?
Because it adds effort and cost, and the benefit isn’t well established.
Because it goes against the idea of low threshhold use of bycicles and discourages use of them for many.
Many people would not bother getting one.
Also cost for the plate, probably other costly requirements and cost for the state for all the admin.
I would be heavily against it. It‘s also one more step to micromanagement and surveying of everything. What‘s next? Do I have to have a license plate on my jacket for walking around?
Who are those “people” and are they in the room with us?
I remember the time where you had to buy a sticker every year so your bike was insuranced. That came close to a license in my eyes.
I was fine with it.
Edit: I did not think about the factor that it could discourage some people to not use a bike cause of it.
We need more people using bikes, better for the enviroment, better for health better for society. (I mean people on bikes who respect the rules of course.)
what you say just isn’t true.
ebikes without license plates are limited to assist up to 25kph. that is slower than even my average speed on an old mountain bike. a road bike is significantly faster than that.
if you want an ebike that is faster it already requires a license plate and always has.
if you are talking about all bikes then that is a massive hurdle and makes bikes for children almost impossible. a bike uses way less “public space” than a car, so making it harder for people to use bikes instead is stupid.
I would vote for it. Especially since this year someone with a bicycle drove into my car and most of the costs for the car repair had to be paid by myself. If there would be license plates and therefore insurances, I wouldn’t have to pay the damage done by the bycicle driver.
Given a choice, would you risk losing your ability to drive to work in the winter ? Given a choice, would you choose to stop being above the law ?
Already have a law for that. E-bikes that reach 30kph and 45kph need a plate, wear helmet and so on.
Otherwise they’re limited to 20kph, and we can easily reach that with unpowered means. We wouldn’t force people to wear helmets if they want to run on foot would we?
It wouldn’t be easy to enforce plates for absolutely everything, and it would be just too much trouble for no benefits really.
Because the Idea is dumb as fuck
Instead of hating on bicycles you should concentrate on those stupid small electro-motorcycles you see zip through everywhere with not helmet ignoring all traffic law.
They should be regulated, and require a licence plate and licence.
Also the faster E-Bikes have them, because there it makes sense
Probably because a lot of bike riders like to drive around the city like in GTA (dodging red lights, using the sidewalk and pedestrian crossings). If you would force them to follow the rules and be accountable, bicycles would become more unattractive…
1. The fast ones you mentioned already have license plates.
2 . For the other ones, it’s additional bureaucracy with questionable benefits.
3. Given the populist times we live in, people are afraid it will be abused to punish bicyclists for political reasons, make it harder to cycle, or make them pay some imaginary road tax despite cycling already having positive externalities, especially compared to driving and even ÖV if you account for subsidies. Cycling is very cheap and has health benefits.
In fact, because the benefits are so questionable and it would definitely discourage cycling, you could turn the question around and ask “why is anyone for this except for reason number #3?
Maybe start talking about proper bike infrastructure before talking about making bikes pay for roads and infrastructure designed for cars.
A license plate for cars makes sense because a car can be speeding in a zone or is more likely involved in a hit and run. A bicycle not so much it makes practically no sense and only adds administrative work. The only thing that would make sense is a centralized system to register serial numbers and ownership to identify lost&found bicycles. Don’t need to be mandatory but a standardized database would make sense.
Keep it easy breezy to encourage use. It’s just another way for govt to raise money and spend it on other things.
I would not oppose it if what is raised were matched by govt and used exclusively to improve cycle infrastructure.
As it stands it’s just another tax. No thank you. 🙂↔️
Why? What for? Regulate? Collect tax? Bother people? What purpose will it deliver other than a higher carbon footprint in excess management, enforcement, use of unnecessary materials and increasing the barrier of entry that will force people to other other transport means. It is a ridiculous idea.
I’m always perplexed by that mantra everytime someone talks about bikes.
People complain about bikes breaking the rules and then decide that the solution is a licence plate?
But then, the fast ebikes already have licence plates and they don’t seem to be any better (or worse) at following the rules. Cars have licence plates and we all know how no car driver EVER breaks a rule either /s.
Would adding a licence plate really improve behaviour? I think the evidence is clearly against that assumption.
