Looks like Jack’s the one being thrown under the bus so. Cant see it saving Martin long term though.

This cynicism of fianna fáil (not sure if just pushed by Micheál Martin or a general fianna fáil thing) of trying to get celebrities elected thinking they are a shoo-in really turns me off fianna fáil (that plus their strong hand in the 2008 downturn). I love when it blows up in their face.

Chambers should be goosed. He isnt, but he’ll be dropped way down the pecking order by the next leader, which this guarantees wont be him.
Martin either went on the 6.1 and lied, or Chambers didnt brief him fully. I tend towards the former but it will be portrayed as the latter, which Chambers would have known at the time. There is always a price for loyalty to Micheal Martin.

Generations of bagmen in Fianna Fáil and they couldn’t find three and a half grand to save themselves an awful lot of bother.

Chambers the one taking the fire here, but the buck stops with Martin and he was the one who was pushing the most for Gavin as their candidate while embarrassing the party even further.

It was already reported that the independent asked them about it before he was announced. They definitely knew.
The alternative is that they’re phenomenally stupid so I don’t know which narrative they’ll go for there.

I think we are missing the bombshell here, which is in the very first line – a member of the FF PP told Chambers there was an issue with Gavin. Like he wasn’t tipped off by a rando.
So an FF TD or Senator warned Chambers directly and he did nothing about it. Who could that be? More than likely a Dublin TD close to the media. That could be Jim O’Callaghan. He was late to endorse Gavin, and repeatedly said ‘I could be wrong about this’ while doing so.
Even if it wasn’t O’Callaghan, it is also just amazing long game to warn Chambers, and then not raise it again, knowing who the tenant was and knowing that it would inevitably blow up sooner or later.

The Fianna Fáil of today were reared by the likes of Haughey, Ahern, and P.Flynn – thinking they’re above this kind of thing is in their DNA.

So Michael Martin, Jack Chambers and Jim Gavin all lied to the nation.
Michael Martin is a cockroach. Chambers will be thrown under the bus.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a government that just wants to improve the lives of the people they are voted into power by.
No more nonsense. No more lies. No more shouting across the Dail at each other. This government is vile. The people of this country deserve so much more.

Optics of this are so poor: a) that FF leadership thought this wouldn’t be a big issue for the electorate b) that they couldn’t just have sorted it before hand like any competent manager would do.
So so poor, mindblowing!

If Fianna Fáil had a shred of a back bone MM would be gone already. Under ordinary circumstances you’d think this would be the final nail in the coffin but MM will still cling on. What’s it gonna take the oust him?

Gavin was a Michael Martin pick, and because he has such a hold on the party, all the rest fell into line.
Now that it has fallen apart, like all great and noble leaders he is trying to weasel out of it and place the blame on anyone else but himself.
Already shafted Gavin in the blame game, looks like Chambers is next.

They wanted to run a candidate who was illegally renting a property outside of PTRB, were told about a ‘discrepancy’, tried to brush it under the carpet, and got caught with their pants down in public.
And the country keeps voting this shower in?😂
How many scandals will it take.
