  1. It really doesn’t the Falklands are significantly better defended than they were in 82.

Last time the armed forces presence was just over 100 personnel. Today it’s 15 times that with the addition of 4 typhoons, a warship on permanent station and the UKs only permanent land based air defence system. Additionally RAF mount present has a significant run way meaning the islands can be quickly reinforced at the first sign of trouble.

While it’s questionable if the RN could mount an operation of similar capability and duration as Op Corporate the mitigation for that is the Falklands will never need it to.

The weapons are not for war but to defend and modernise, no one would support a war on this day and age

Argentina were sold significant amounts of British equipment before the 1982 conflict. You’d have thought Britain would have learned from that mistake by now.

Keep Trump away from any Argentinian representation at the World Cup. He won’t have heard of them let alone know where they are but he’ll probably think “Las Malvinas” are a troop of dancing girls.

Need to remind him that they are the Falkland
Islands and they definitely don’t have any oil. 😉

You would think selling them weapons would be conditional on them renouncing all claims to the Falklands first or are we that desperate to make a few sales

    >The government has denied claims from Argentina’s president that the two countries are in talks about lifting an arms export ban that has been in place since the Falklands War.

    >A spokesman said there are “no specific talks” taking place, after Javier Milei told The Daily Telegraph negotiations with Britain were under way to lift weapons export restrictions.

The argentine armed forces are severely depleted, even in comparison to mid-ranking European powers. The Falklands are safe for at least a decade.

Im extremely critical of how governments have effectively run down our defence capability but Argentina are not (currently) any sort of regional threat.

The govt says there aren’t any talks and apparently Millie told the Telegraph directly that there are? I think the latter is less plausible than the former….

It would be mad to allow weapon sales to Argentina who still claims the Falklands at the same time as we are preparing for war. They will use those same weapons while we are distracted and at war to seize the islands.

Argentina wanting to attack the Falkland’s is 99.99999% a tabloid fantasy. And even if they did they simply don’t have the capability.

Why do you think Trump gave all that money to Argentina? He’ll be encouraging them to re-take the Falklands. Another part of the fat orange wankers plan to weaken Europe.

But if we’re not allowed to sell weapons to potential enemies how will the weapons manufactures make a decent profit?

It isn’t as if we’ve never done that before… The article includes a photo of HMS Sheffield, on fire, after being hit during the Falklands War. HMS Sheffield was the first of the Sheffield class or Type 42 Destroyers. During construction in 1970 there was an explosion which damaged part of the hull (and two workers were killed). Vickers were able to replace the hull panelling with a part that was on the identical, sister-ship being constructed nearby, which was eventually commissioned ARA Hércules in 1976. ARA Hércules also took part in the Falklands War – on the other side – along with Argentina’s other Type 42 destroyer, ARA Santísima Trinidad (built in Argentina, partly by British engineers and technicians), commissioned in 1981.

ARA Santísima Trinidad led the invasion of the Falkland Islands.

But hey, I’m sure someone made a profit from the sales.

It really doesn’t matter if UK is selling weapons to Argentina or not. the only thing that matters is what Trump decides is the future for Falklands and if he needs something from Milei as a favour. If he cannot get that by other means, he will gift the Falklands to Argentina and UK will oblige.

Thing is, he already “owns” Milei and UK has nothing to worry about.

They’d get swiftly spanked if they tried. They can’t make it to the islands before we mount a defence.
