    **Background:**

In the investigation at the Szőlő Street juvenile residential school, following Tuesday’s dramatic action, several people have now been arrested or are under investigation, including the acting director of the institution, Károly Kovács-Buna, who resigned on Monday. Earlier, the former director, Péter Pál Juhász, and his partner were already arrested; they are also suspected of human trafficking and forced labor. In addition, videos have emerged showing abuse that took place in the institution.

The government had previously lied about the case, claiming that “no minors were involved.”

The opposition leader, Péter Magyar, released on Friday a document from 2021 detailing the conditions in child protection and the violence suffered by children placed in these institutions.

The protest was organized by Péter Magyar, announced three days ago. It is currently 3°C in Budapest, and today is a working day in Hungary. The demonstration started during working hours, but there is a huge turnout. Protesters are bringing plush toys and games with them.

It’s funny how anti-putinism unites us, because I never thought I’d be cheering for Hungary and Peter Magyar, yet here we are. Tear Orban a new one! 💪
