      Trading humans for sanctions. Basically same as paying for slavery. Will only encourage dictators to imprison more and more people, so they could be traded for something.

      People living comfortably in their houses passing judgement that trump removed some sanctions to get political prisoners free, I think I would rather hear from the people locked up.

      Hell, those people were imprisoned for the pursuit of a free and democratic Belarus. The absolute majority of them are anti-Putin, pro-Ukraine and pro-EU (some of them were even deported straight to Ukraine) and that’s why they were thrown in jail. Some of them were jailed for 4-5 years.
      But r/europe is as always “Orange man bad.”

      This is the wrong move. Instead, the west should completely embargo belarus (and I’m meaning a total embargo – a border closure, a ban on flights flying overhead, even a ban on IT services). Let’s see how well they survive without their precious western tech. Russia is already flailing and Belarus will take a big hit if the free world tightens the controls on belarus.

      It is sort of funny that so many people were all “Hurr durr Germoney will betray Ukraine and go back to buying Russian gas, we trust USA more than Western Europe” and then it turns out that Germany steadfastly supports Ukraine, while USA betrays them and folds under zero pressure for no rational reason.

      And Europeans are doing nothing to help us. Keep buying goods from the USA, no sanctions, not even harsh words anymore. We’ve helped Europe so many times and how do they repay us? Trash talk us on reddit but then do nothing to help us. You don’t think we’re suffering, too? Our people who are going homeless at an alarming rate. We’re losing our jobs, our families, our homes. But yes, please keep telling us how evil we are, when the majority of us are opposed to this happening and we have no agency in our lives because…. The entire rest of the world abandoned us when we needed them
