Whilst the article is correct, and HMS Forth is the only Royal Navy warship in the Falklands, there remains a sizable military presence in the islands, with 4 Typhoons, a Sky Sabre battery and a Roulement infantry Company.
There is a negligible threat from Argentina at present, especially as they have no amphibious warfare ships that can land troops and equipment ashore.
If there was intelligence of an Argentinian threat, the Falklands could be reinforced with additional aircraft and troops within a short time frame and additional RN assets deployed (although they would take longer to arrive clearly).

Nothing new, there’s been a single patrol ship based there for years. The main presence is a few Typhoon fighters

This is such a click baity title 🙃
Lone ship supported by a Typhoon squadron, a permanent joint force presence and additional assets at less than 24hrs notice 🥱

The navy presence is basically irrelevant to the defence of the Falklands, even if we deployed a type 45 again, it wouldn’t need to do much as the Typhoons can handle anything Argentina has in its inventory.
F16A and B are 1970s aircraft, even 6 v 4 they have very little chance of being more than target practice for Typhoons armed with Meteor.
Argentina is not a threat and will not be for a very long time at this rate.

Why not just put the Falkland Islands under the uk nuclear umbrella with an official document. Basically saying if anyone invades and takes away sovereignty over the people then they will be nuked. Just as you would protect London.
Simple. Clear. Powerful.

I presume that this same paper was outraged when Trump bailed out Argentina, or was it fine considering how wonderful Milei was, and how he was the model for other countries?

Lone ship has guarded Falklands for decades. We don’t state where are nuclear submarines are, it’s widely accepted we always have one operating in the South Atlantic.
That’s before we consider the army and RAF presence on the Falklands.
Milei isn’t a hardline nationalist. He doesn’t care about Falklands and only entertains it as he is required to do so by Argentina politics. *He* isn’t planning an invasion.
The UK is far more capable of defending the Falklands now than it was in 1982.

Controversial opinion here, so we’ll see how the downvotes vs replies play out, but –
Aside from the obvious “it’s ours so that’s that” I’m assuming our only real reason for being so worried about the Falklands is because they’re an important defence outpost in the South Atlantic?
They’re extremely remote, bleak as hell, a lot of the population only live there because of the UK military presence, a lot of young people growing up there want to leave and often do so. We could easily evacuate everyone living there if needed.
Outside of the military benefits, surely there’s no real reason to be so staunchly defensive about a group of islands 300 miles from Argentina but 8000 miles from the UK?

I think the point is probably that Argentina would have to engage the British military to try to take the islands. Sidling onto an undefended “disputed” patch is one thing; actually opening fire on an enemy combatant is another.

Argentina isn’t part of NATO. UK is.
They won’t do a fucking thing.

Our two carriers are enough of a threat on their own and that is ignoring the local and hidden assets.

It’s only a matter of time before Trump gives Argentina what they need and plots against us.

The UK has other ships and could easily reinforced the islands in less time that it would take Argentina to build a landing force. Even now any landing force would be sitting ducks of the RAF.
Argentina is posing no threat, yet still the defense of the islands is being taken seriously

There’s also a submarine that patrols but that won’t be publicly admitted.
