What happened to Japan?? I always thought it was a wealthy country. It does not look that good at all.

That is slowly getting crushed because all the jobs are going to SEA or India or China, and they are net importing from China instead of exporting.
They aren’t going to welfare their way out of this. If nobody do the hard work, then who else?

To make it more convincing, it would be worth adding France, Italy, Brazil, and Russia to this list to make it clearer that Europe, on the whole, is the best place to live in the world.

This can’t be true. Life quality is all about economy and GDP according to our US friends. We europoors surely can’t have nice and fulfilling lifes with our inferior economy.

The infant mortality rate in the US is surprisingly high for a country that spends so much on health.

There is always selection effect here. Could reasonably add PPP adjusted real disposable income, or adjusted by hours worked. And a number of other metrics. Tbf these types of charts are silly, find metrics you think matter and look at them instead.

Honestly I am surprised that the HDI in the US is so comparable to Germany after including all of the indigent populations and poorer areas in America.
Also, any comparison between lower population countries with less diversity like Germany and Japan and comparatively massive countries like USA, China, or even India is going to be a dramatic oversimplification.

Insane how far some of these came far got to after being nuked and the other being under colonial rule for so long.
Although corruption and greed are not doing any good.

Surprising to see Germany as the 22nd happiest country in the world, when all you see online and in media is people complaining.
In surveys, the result is often that people think the country is in a terrible shape, but personally they are doing fine.

When I read this headline, I thought it meant ‘5 biggest European’ economies- (which would include the UK). I wonder how the different nations would rank.

I mean; anyone visiting any of those and going beyond the tipical tourist stuff or rich people things can figure this out right? (Working) Culture in Japan (and China) is insanely toxic, stuk in eternal 80ies- early 90ies and drowning in old people. Half of the USA is basically a 3rd world country (and has a worse working Culture compared to Europe in general), partially the same for China (but they atleast move forward till the old people wave will hit them like a tsunami) but also has a horrible work culture. India doesn’t need explanation I guess.
But hey, our richoverlords get really happy from grabbing all the money they can!
