      It doesn’t cost Russia anything to make this statement when other large issues remain unresolved like occupied land, security guarantees, and sovereignty.

      Russia does not get to dictate what another country can join or not join. They are the masters of no one except their own country.

      But for what it’s worth Russia said this months ago and it was after Ukraine started the accession process. To me it comes off as Ukraine starts accession process…. Russia says “Well fine! I was going to let you do that anyway!”.

      Russia says that because it believes EU won’t last – its one of main goals of their propaganda now. Also Ukraine joining EU will be a fuel for all anti EU and anti Ukraine idiots who grow in popularity now. So I am not surprised.

      Russia has enough vassals in the EU that would block Ukraine’s accession for Russia that it doesn’t matter. There is no USA equivalent in Europe that when they say jump, the rest of the organization will say how high.

      Yeah, I call BS on that. If they are not against it, it probably means they are planning to undermine EU from within via the likes of Orban and potentially AFD even before Ukraine becomes part of the EU.
