A very nice multi purpose plane. And built in the EU.

  2. The shit storm of comments under this report on RTE’s Facebook is nuts.

How nice that ministers get luxury transport while the rest of us endure broken public transport. Dart and commuter services are a shit show again this evening

Shiny. At least we won’t have to rent planes anymore. Saw they added a new Garda plane as well earlier.

A few decently sized transports for the air corps while we’re at it so we can handle any future warzone evacuations ourselves.

Cracking bit of kit and a great investment considering the running and repair costs that the Learjet 45 was racking up.

  6. It’s very good to have these kind of logistical capabilities, but I’m also very skeptical of how useful a “troop transport” this would be considering it only has passenger capabilities for 14 and very limited ability to carry military equipment.

The Air Corps would really stand to benefit from some proper long-range heavy lift capacity.

    People, people!

    Let’s focus here.

What kind of crazy ass colour is that? Guinness charcoal?

We badly needed it for air ambulance and repatriation of Irish citizens, and Irish Military stuff if required

Great spend tbh. Was actually badly needed. Also great that they went with a European jet.

Was also costing nearly a million a year in chartering costs, because the old Learjet we did have was so unreliable.

Is it officially called the “government jet” or is that just a rage bait description. The quote from the head of the defense force puts government use last in his quote and it’s clearly a much needed multi role aircraft.

I’m only annoyed they only got one. What if it’s down for maintenance and urgent air ambulance needed etc or they simply need two planes at once.

Good they bought one. They probably spent close to that renting jets after the last one broke.

  14. The czechs use a version of the airbus 319 – I thnk that might ahve been a better call as it can be reconfigured into a hospital plane fairly quickly.
