Horrific. The girl was so brave recording it all.

I am glad I dont have to be in that courtroom to listen to that. I don’t think I’d be able. I can’t even read the article.

The details of the tidy house reminded me of the show about the Franke family.

Very sad that the teenage daughter now changed her statement. The guilt must be terrible, even though logically the only people at fault were the parents. Poor kids.

  5. Brave young girl that made those recordings. I hope all those children find some love and contentment in their lives.

    Scum parents.

The sheer scale of child abuse in this country is staggering, and we are probably one of the better countries in this regard. The way some people treat their kids is often hard to fathom. I feel guilty raising my voice at my children.

Those kids were unbelievably brave. Recording that abuse and going to the Gardaí wasn’t about getting anyone in trouble, it was about surviving and protecting their younger siblings. No child should have to do that. The fact they found the courage to speak up says everything about them. They kept their little siblings safe when no adult did. That takes real strength and they deserve nothing but empathy and respect.

Knowing people went to jail for what my siblings and I experienced daily is mad. Wish my older siblings had done that, fair play to the older ones for protecting the younger.

This is horrendous. What is even more worrying is the “care” system they are going to find themselves in. That can compound the trauma. Let’s hope they are ok.

I’d have loved to be in the interview room when the mother, if you can call her that, had the tape of her coaching her children played for her. On second thought, no I wouldn’t want to be in the room.

Gotta hand it to the eldest kids – very well spoken by the sounds of it in this article and good heads on them to be able to stand up for themselves. Their siblings will be incredibly grateful to them when they reach similar ages and understand the full reality of what they were exposed to.

    >A prosecuting garda told prosecuting barrister Pat Reynolds that the recordings were a serious cause of concern and that the two children were afraid to return home to their parents after going to gardai.

    >Gardaí called to the house that day and found it extraordinarily neat and tidy, which they said in itself was a cause of concern in a household of six children.

    >A list of names with assigned chores was on the table and a 10-year-old girl was minding her three-year-old brother while the mother was out shopping with two other children.

    >When the mother returned home and was told of the allegations made by her eldest son and daughter, she called her children “vindictive liars”.

    >Over the following 24 hours, all the children were placed in emergency care. Gardai said none of the children were upset leaving the house.

TW in the article for more specific details of the abuse. Absolutely horrendous, I’m so glad that all the children are now safe. One of the older children changing their statement now is very sad, but understandable that with all she went though that she’d be susceptible to influence from people with unhelpful intentions.

Absolutely despicable. The stuff that goes on in some homes behind closed doors, and a lot of that will never come to light, it is truly horrifying…

A lot of boomers are going to be sweating bullets after reading that
