No shit lmao, you won’t see Merz in the foxholes

It’s never young people’s fault, yet they always bear the cost.

For e.g. I’m also reading today that our Conservatives are in uproar about the UK’s return to Erasmus, because that money could have been better spent on our beloved businesses. It’s hard not to be cynical as a (relatively) young person myself.

  3. TheGoalkeeper on

Anyone surprised? Young people get bullied by the politicians. Budget cuts for Education, military service is back, and as soon as you start earning money you soon pay 50+% in taxes and social services for which you get no improvements in your life and living standards in return

You’re vervently opposed to Russian imperialism but unwilling to bear arms when it mattered.

    The math isn’t mathing here.

Democracy is voting to force someone else go die for you.

    What a surprise!
Breaking German’s youth doesn’t want to die on battlefield!

The contract between the younger and older generations has sadly been broken.
If the only thing you own is a debt, you might as well pack up and leave.
Like many young men from other war-torn countries who move to Germany and are encouraged to do so..

  8. InvestmentBulky9817 on

They need to get these new “Europeans” to defend us, unless they’re too busy protesting Christmas markets

  9. Far-Travel6736 on

whoever is saying they can just flew west is a retard and short sighted. Germany is already considered the area where weak and children with women would flee. If russia comes for germany its already too late to be fleeing.

Give me the passport, I will conscript.

So many people want to come to Germany, it is one of the best countries in the world to live in, and they say they don’t have anything to defend.

  11. Smart-Protection-845 on

The time of no conscription has come to an end. It’s back on the menu boys

I don’t know why everyone is saying “I will never die for my politicians” or “The young people always bear the cost” everyone seems so focused on politicans

If war breaks out and the Country can’t defend itself, what do you think is gonna happen to you, if you don’t even know how to hold a rifle ? It’s not about politics or unfairness it’s about defending the place you live and love and not dying as canon fodder if you had no training.

There is no rules in war, nobody will care about ur thoughts and doing something for the comfort you have there is not much to ask for, also because the country is not even at war right now. I get why people would not want to have Military Service but with that reasoning, it feels like people don’t respect what they have.

    Also

Germany had a Compulsory military service for 55 Years ending 2011, the current Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz served himself in an Artillery Unit or like other Politicans, they all served.

If people don’t want to fight for the free world today they going to end in the world of tyranny tomorrow. And will pay with ×100 lives just for a chance to come back. Looks like we need to re-learn this again and again every 3-4 generations.

Just call all the fucking NEETs here on r/europe, they have nothing better to do and want to send NATO troops to Ukraine.

  15. Nothing motivates you to fight like debt, work up to 70, housing problems and the inability to safely start a family and beget children.

  16. reddebian on

No shit, Sherlock. I mean what do you expect from a generation that constantly gets screwed over by politicians to appease to the elderly and corporations? I know it’s important to have a formidable army in these dangerous times but I also get why young people don’t want to die for their country

  17. ConsiderationSad6271 on

I mean, it’s a necessity. Sorry leute – we all have to do our duty to exist.

  18. Basically this is equality that modern day democracy blessed us with. Cherish and promote individualism, celebrate lower birth rates and import millions of young workable men from 3rd world and vilify family, collectivism and patriotism, but once shit hits the fan : “You have to give your life for freedom, for your country, for your people”

    Nah ah – I dont.

    It boils down to this

“Somebody has to defend this country” -> Young men forced to die in trenches.

“Somebody has to give birth, we are disappearing” (peace time) -> You are a sexist, my body my choice!

“Somebody has to give birth, we are disappearing” (war time) -> ☺️🥹

Yet another demonstration that Western civilization is finished

The same people who can no longer afford a house, who have been lied to about politics wanting to tackle climate change and the fact that the retirement pensions are fucked by the time they want to retire? Shocker.

  21. GrannyFlash7373 on

If war breaks out, they may either defend their country or live under someone else’s rule, like Putin. I don’t think they want that.

  22. Their only real choice is under which flag: German or russian?

  23. Is it racist or has it become OK to say following now?

    > It would be great if there were more young Europeans getting marred and having children. We need more Europeans. We need them to take us to the future, to defend our way of life and to make sure our elderly can have a pension and live their last years on earth in peace and dignity

Because I think this was flat out racists even few months ago, not sure if anything changed?

  24. DefInnit on

The age cohort is 300,000 males. They’ll initially need 20,000 in 2026 to volunteer to do military service (for 2,700 euros/month) for 6 months or 1 year and then become reservists.

There’s always be those who’d be opposed. There are also those willing to do it. Let’s see if there’ll be enough of the latter.

  25. As someone who did his duty to serve – I understand the position but you‘d also have to accept as a result you deserve to be conquered

  26. Interestingly reported by france24.

But seriously – I don’t blame people. They look at previous generation who was living in peaceful times and they were probably assuming that their generation will be the same. Now politicians say: “we were weak and did not contain the threat when we could, we need to draft you, or at least train you in case we need to draft you to pay for our mistakes”. I am absolutely not surprised.

  27. What else then if they don’t want American military presence? Thoughts and prayers? Learn Russian?

  28. Finlandiaprkl on

Based on this comment section, we who are actually bordering Russia need to prepare to fend for ourselves, because looks like those behind us will surrender even before a single shot is fired.
