It’s one of the best and most successful educational schemes in the world. I’m absolutely fudging delighted that it’s back.
I considered it one of the biggest losses from Brexit.
Racists in the Daily Mail are getting really angry about this.

Great idea. We should not have left this wonderful scheme
Yep! I feel sorry for the people who missed out due to Brexit, but very happy to see it back.
Europe even shouldn’t give any visa to Brits after brexit it’s a mistake
Erasmus is an brilliant scheme, we never should have stopped it.
Of course the right hate it, because exposing young people to other cultures and ideas is an excellent way of reducing nationalism and promoting multiculturalism.
Saddened that I’ll never be able to take advantage of it. Happy that others have the opportunity opened up to them.
💯 support…glad we are repairing bridges with our neighbours
The Turing scheme was more effective than Erasmus and cheaper.
I don’t understand why they have signed up for what appears to be a worse deal than the one we had.
Would be interesting to know how the numbers either way compared last time.
Why would anyone oppose Erasmus? If you aren’t interested in doing a foreign exchange, nobody is forcing you to take part. It’s a wonderful thing for anyone who wants to experience a different culture and learn a language.
But my opinion is a little tinted with bias, as my son would never have existed without Erasmus.
It appears it is popular because it is generally known. I would have preferred Turing expanded. There was a good reason both labour & Tories rejected it, it’s ludicrously, painfully expensive for tax payers. I think Starmer was under pressure from the EU.
It’s a nice idea when you just put the question out there like that, but is it worth £570m a year? It’s over 5 times the cost of the Turing scheme which has had more UK takeup than Erasmus did before we left.
I’m sure it’s lovely for the people who get to take advantage of it, especially the EU students who get to spend a year at a UK university and have us pay for it. But it doesn’t look like a good deal for the country on those terms.
It’s a step in the right direction, but not enough. We should all have freedom to live, work, and study anywhere in the word, like we did 120 years ago.
To quote David Attenborough: “All life on Earth depends on the freedom to move.”
