It needs to be designed to distinguish between a car being used with permission against the terms of the lease, and a car being used without permission (or with coerced permission) so that the disabled person doesn’t get punished for a situation outside their control.

We all know someone who drives a mobility car that they have from a family member.

What are the actual supposed restrictions for someone driving a mobility car that is in someone else’s name?

Regardless of official ‘rates’ of fraud.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, jeopardises the welfare state than the sniff of injustice. I feel this is something certain people refuse to accept. Injustice rubs people up far more than criminality.

Everyone accepts crooks exist, with the pinky promise they will be caught and punished. If the general public thinks the entire system is corrupt then the system fails.

Broadly. If someone is working full time and sees another having a higher standard of living than them paid for by the taxpayer, the entire system will fail. No ifs or buts, the system will fail.

Good, but the Investigation Unit needs to be properly separate from Motability reporting lines, perhaps direct to DWP. Motability loses money if it finds fraud.

I like how they use a picture of a frail old couple for sympathy as though that’s the target of this

Bring back the old blue disability cars. I 100% guarantee that claims for motability would be cut by at least 50%.

In the disability tax-relief system, vehicular based offences are considered especially heinous. In London (City of), the dedicated Motability detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the ‘Special Investigations Unit’. These are their stories.
