This is all based on the figures the government gave the OBR. The OBR models migration as a positive driver for GDP, which is part of the reason for the Boriswave. At the moment it’s in the governments interests to keep figures to the OBR high, even if they are working hard to reduce numbers.
It’s all about headroom in the budget – hence we had a bunch of taxes of varying levels of practicality proposed at some point in the distant future. It’s all to hack the OBR.
I don’t particularly care for the number but I do care *where* people are coming from and what cultures.
Are we talking Europeans here or are we talking Middle East North Africa?

its probably necessary for the the declining birth rates in this country? I know I won’t be able to have kids of my own.
Guardian headline writers keen to speed run a Reform government.
>Net migration peaked at a record 944,000 in the year to March 2023, due to a surge of foreign workers encouraged to come to the UK by Boris Johnson’s government as the UK emerged from the Covid pandemic, but has fallen sharply since then.
This is a significant decline over the Boris Wave, and even the 300k projection (an increase on the current 204k) is lower than the Tory average, and the time frame for it is another 5 years.
The average net migration under Conservative government’s (from Camerons election) was 348k.
If you want to control migration, you want to avoid the party with a *proven* track record of increasing migration.
I’d also suggest you might want to avoid the new lighter blue party largely staffed by the same Tories who jumped ship.
The fact they are coming here isnt a problem to me but as someone from the uk all I can think is why? Its shit here.
Thats ok, no migration would make us look like Japan
Rise to 300k?
Net migration to the United Kingdom was around a million just a couple of years ago.
Even the Guardian is trying to bring Starmer down. Unbelievable disingenuous twaddle…
The author is an immigrant to the United Kingdom.
