This is my absolute worst nightmare, unfortunately if you have taken all the above measures the only options that I can think of is like you said park somewhere else, but that’s not really an option. The other option is to try and get someone with a ferret but that wouldn’t solve the problem long-term. Maybe try contacting environmental health? Or maybe an air rifle club to cut their numbers. Good luck with it and I hope you get it solved.

A quick solution would be to run chicken wire around the car when parked up. Screw the wire to battens at its base forms a frame that you can just pull around the car. Put pipe insulation around the top to keep it from damaging the car.

It should work as a quick temporary fix.

Can I ask why parking where there arent rats isnt an option?

The presence of rats is a public health issue. And if its a public place, then the council will put in vermin control if needed.

Another long term solution would be to put up an owl box, barn owls eat 1-4000 rodents per year. The barn owl project has dimensions for one on their website and advice on where to sight it.

  5. If you have or know someone that have cats, get a bit of cat urine and spray the entry points and underbody with it.

  6. Very large tarp or cover and bricks / weights to keep it on the floor

Environmentally friendly organic materials in wiring looms and plastics that make them smell like food to rats – Genius idea!

    Soy based wiring looms……. wtf?

You’re going to have to slowly winch the car into a lake until just the very top of the roof is above the water line. Have a family member stand on the roof with a hurling stick. Only way to be sure.

If you are in the country as it where. The rats are prob located near a place like a rubbish tip or cow shed feed station.
I grew up with problems like this. A solution like a terrier or cat works well in a house or in general.
You may quiet a few rats around. I’d suggest stoping them getting into the house. Cats and dogs are great.

We’re dealing with the same thing at home atm,rat ate through the trailer plug wiring loom in the father in laws 2023 Mercedes. Problem is once they get into the car once they’ll keep coming back. We put Storm ultra poison balls in around the vehicle and bait traps with the balls in them around the house, they ate them over the space of a week, haven’t touched them now in days so either they’ve died off or they’ve gotten the fear and haven’t come near the vehicle since. We’re the same as you,out in the country next to fields so they’re always present. Highly recommend the storm ultra position though, failing that getting some professional in

i personally had this problem, here’s a LifeHack Aromatic Ammonia, ( the one used to treat dizzyness) just rub it on cotton and onto your wires, suspension and plastic molding, leave the soaked cotton on the engine bay where rats frequent, Ammonia lasts weeks and guaranteed to drive rodents away! And the good thing is these pests won’t be back!

  13. This happened to my partner this week. We got him out but damaged wires. We do have two cats and 3 dogs around the property and they are still around. 2 of the dogs are terriers and can smell them but still somehow managed to get in

  14. A person I knew from work had this issue, they were advised never park your car in the exact same place to change it up so the rats never got used to it being a constant, not sure if you can do this but they lived in a farm and could park in different spot. The other thing you’re going to have to do is get some bait stations and poison, never leave the bait station in the same spots, change it up as again they notice routines and will avoid something, smear some peanut butter on whatever poison blocks your using to entice them even more. Good luck.
