Good to be ready. Hoping for peace and being prepared for war…
I like who it’s written from an angle making it seem controversial or even scandalous, but then it’s all just basic good ideas.
Lots of word for very little sensible content imho.
And the title suggesting “controversial weapon systems” already was warning it’s some kind of BS. Cyklon-B would be controversial. None of the weapons mentioned are controversial. The amount of spending and the allocation between various systems, or selection of particular manufacturers, speed of the whole process may be – but not weapon systems themselves.
As long as Germany doesn’t plan on invading us again, it’s an excellent thing, and this should have been done a long time ago already.
Yeah, let’s talk to Russia about banning Hypersonic missiles for both sides first before aquiring them. Mutschler is a bit of an optimist to a naive degree…
Consequences are winning and peace. Bet they are gonna get used to it.
It is, rather untypically, an uninformed article by Correktiv, and the original German version caused quite a (negative) stir on German social media.
Controversial weapons are here armed drones, AI and hypersonic missiles. One cannot help and think that the author was stuck somewhere in the 1980s peace movement.
The “list” is btw not secret – most of it is publicly available and is discussed in various media for many months now, including the new structure.
SYL
Why are we acting like it’s so strange Germany has an army. The West Germany army was pretty strong in the cold war.
Si via pacem, para bellum.
Also it will take many years and hundreds of bilions to be a power in this world.. BUT…….ONE thing is important.. warfare has changed a metric ton.
Juist see how the war is fought in Ukraine.. Drones are one of the most important units now. With a few thousand euro you can damage a milions costing taank and other very expansive materials.
I woyld say, if you the leading combat drone county you’re in a good position.. so short, mid and long range drones and missles. Communication jammers. Tange extender etc, etc. Everything to maximize drone capabilities..
Can ypu imagine a few drones costing 10 milion killing a airplane ship cpsting bilions with lots of olanes on ther costing a metric to om milions. Let alone the time to produce….
Shit has chanced drastically.. and we need to be prepared.
Good.
“Controversial weapons systems” at the risk of sounding a tad distasteful. I doubt there are many weapons systems Germany could requisition where the casual observer wouldn’t just shrug and say “at least theres no chlorine in this one”
Meke Europe great again. No need to worry about Germany joining the fight. Theyre our brothers
>Is the country prepared for the consequences?
The better question would be: is the country ready for the consequences if they keep their defences at current shit level?
Clearly they are not and thus, they are wise and spend and upgrade.
The only thing controversial is the price and how little capability Germany is getting for its billions spent on defense.
Germany’s defense budget was around 45 billion before 2022, similar to France, Japan, and South Korea, but in terms of capability, they had not even 10% of what the other three had. Germany needs to fix its bureaucracy first before anyone, including Germans, should be worried about a German military superpower.
Also, West Germany was just fine having the best Western army in Europe without any of the worries of it turning back into some kind of Third Reich.
I’m happy to have either France or Germany lead Europe in case of war.
How else is it possible to defend Europe without Americans
„controversial weapon systems” like water guns? Right now German military has been castrated for decades. With a war going on in Europe we need to be able to annihilate the russian trash at a moments notice.
wake me when “planning” turns into “doing”
They can pour as many billions as they want, until we get a **European Defense** and not just increasing the budget of German, French, Polish, Swedish etc. we will be throwing half the money in an endless pit and perpetuate our reliance to American command structure (via NATO).
And yet we see very little appetite from our governments to do that – a lot of words and frameworks and promises of coordinations, but very little actions to establish a military union.
Of course we also need increased spending and developping our own weapons. But that’s half the job.
America has proven to be an unstable partner so it makes sense to build up the military.
Let me save you some time: we are ordering drones, missiles and ammunition. And we are basically conscripting again (even so it’s called voluntary for now). And our politicians talk about war in talk shows (it’s a mystery why). Can’t see any controversial in this to be honest. It’s not great to invest in the military and not in schools or social programs. But it is what is in our time.
So who are we investing in? 100% into *rheinmetall* or what?
Confidential documents reveal plan to channel billions into ammunition and weapons systems?
The heavily publicised German government policy to invest 500 billion into defence industry – are you sure it is not the same?
Trumpy made this happen. 💯
I’d rather deal with such consequences over the consequences due to NOT re-arming
Is the world ready?
