RTE ha deciso di includere The High Kings nel suo speciale Christmas in Kilmainham alla vigilia di Natale. Ciò che alcune persone potrebbero non capire è che la band ha pubblicato la sua musica più recente sotto l’etichetta discografica di Conor McGregor, Greenback Records. Di conseguenza, l’emittente di servizio pubblico irlandese sta utilizzando il denaro dei pagatori del canone per avvantaggiare finanziariamente un’azienda di proprietà di McGregor.
Per essere chiari, disprezzo McGregor e non sono mai stato discreto al riguardo in passato. Per me questa non è una questione astratta. Sono stata aggredita quando avevo vent’anni e il trauma è rimasto con me per anni. Ma quello che ho vissuto non è stato nulla in confronto al terribile attacco subito da Nikita Hand.
Lo dico perché sento la responsabilità di denunciare qualsiasi sostegno agli interessi commerciali di McGregor quando lo vedo. Gli High Kings hanno pubblicato musica sotto l’etichetta di McGregor dopo che è stato ritenuto civilmente responsabile per stupro. Non vi è alcuna plausibile affermazione di ignoranza o di distanza storica. La band sapeva esattamente con chi si stava allineando.
Si tratta di responsabilità e giudizio etico. RTE non è un’emittente privata che prende una decisione commerciale. È un’organizzazione finanziata con fondi pubblici con obblighi nei confronti delle persone che la pagano. La nostra emittente del servizio pubblico che sceglie di trarre profitto dai suoi interessi commerciali è un insulto a Nikita Hand e a tutti i sopravvissuti alla violenza in Irlanda.
Ho mandato un’e-mail a RTE per chiamarli direttamente. So che questa è la settimana di Natale e le persone sono impegnate a prepararsi, ma se qualcuno è d’accordo con me su questo, lo incoraggio vivamente a inviare un’e-mail anche a RTE. La pressione pubblica conta!
Voglio sinceramente capire come RTE abbia giustificato questa decisione.

Ed ecco uno screenshot di una Greenback Records Posta su Instagram annunciando che avrebbero pubblicato la musica per The High Kings a luglio di quest’anno.

To RTE Complaints,
Why has RTE decided to use licence fee payers’ money to financially benefit Conor McGregor by featuring The High Kings, a band that releases their music under McGregor’s record label, in the Christmas in Kilmainham special? A public service broadcaster choosing to profit McGregor’s business interests is an insult to his victim and to survivors of violence across Ireland.
The High Kings have released music under McGregor’s label after he was found civilly liable for rape. There is no plausible claim of ignorance or historical distance. The band knew exactly who they were aligning themselves with.
After McGregor was found civilly liable for rape, businesses across Ireland made a conscious decision to refuse to work with any of his businesses. RTE appears to have chosen a different standard.
I would like a clear explanation of how this decision was justified, and what consideration was given to RTE’s public service responsibilities when approving the inclusion of The High Kings in the Christmas in Kilmainham special.

He’s the biggest name celebrity out of Ireland in generations, can’t imagine it’s surprising he has the money to pay for adverting.
I mean if RTE is to boycott every band who’s record label has a dodgy exec then there’d be no bands left.
Oh damn, at first I thought maybe Greenback were just lying about it, since when you google it they seem to be the main source, not the band
But yeah no it’s there on their Spotify for the new single “© 2025 Greenback Records”

You’ve probably done more promotion for the record label than whatever RTE are gonna be doing!
