Il servizio di sicurezza dell’Ucraina ha rivelato nuovi dettagli di un’operazione speciale a Novorossiysk.
Prima di colpire il sottomarino, gli agenti della SBU hanno disabilitato l’unico aereo da pattugliamento antisommergibile operativo della Russia con sede nel Mar Nero, l’Ilyushin Il-38N (“Sea Dragon”), nella base aerea di Yeysk.
L’Il-38N stava dando attivamente la caccia ai droni navali ucraini ed era l’unico aereo in grado di rilevare il drone subacqueo Sub Sea Baby.
L’aereo è stato colpito da un drone da combattimento della SBU fatto esplodere direttamente sopra la sezione del radar e dell’equipaggiamento, danneggiando i sistemi critici e un motore.

Very nicely done… The Il-38N “Sea Dragon” is of course based on the Il-38 maritime patrol aircraft, and then based on the Il-18 prop liner. Basically Russia’s version of the P-3 Orion. Another old, legacy, upgraded system that cannot be replaced by long being out of production.
Losing just one Il-38N, of which the Russian Navy only has about 30 in service (to patrol the Black Sea, Baltic’s, Pacific and Atlantic regions) is a painful loss.
And will make Ukrainian naval drones even harder to detect and track.
Only concern, and it’s an unlikely one – India flew seven Il-38N’s until 2023… Four have been preserved… Putler might try to get the remaining three back.
