I agree we need our own social media platforms. But I’m also concerned about the “align with our values” part. The only value I care about is absolutely freedom of expression. Twitter was a biased cesspool before Elon took over; and it remains a biased cesspool now only for the other side of the political sprectrum.
The internet was better when it was just the people doing what they want, and talking about what they want.
You want a healthy internet? Ban corporations, ads and governments interfering except for enforcing this freedom of influence. And teach kids in school media literary and how to properly handle all kinds of speech (-> ignore button), then we don’t need sketchy biased algorithms to protect our delicate minds.
Literally just make something like twitter, allow porn and freedom of speech and all but with underlying algorythms/systems that have europes peoples best interest in mind.
But something like this will never happen , whatever comes out of europe will be too restrictive and or obsucre to compete with the other platforms

To not sell you as the product, we really need a subscription service where your data is not the product being sold. The profit needs to be from subscription fees. But no one wants to pay to stay connected to friends and family. But then complain when the “free” product makes its money by selling your data and generating ad views through rage baiting.
