Totally get why this freaks people out. Maybe one concrete step would be EU-wide requirements for minimum “essential medicines” production capacity. I’m surprised this isn’t treated like energy security already.
From what I understand the problem is on 2 fronts:
1) We have outsourced most of the manufacturing to other countries (China and the US).
2) The US being the largest consumer of European pharmaceuticals (by far) is demanding more manufacturing being done there.
This should really ring some alarm bells. The answer might be to find new markets, though I do not know which could fill the gap left by the US consumer market.
Europe wants to become fully dependent on Russia’s top ally.

Yeah, no European government is going to agree with this.
