Wild to think kids will grow up without knowing what a mailbox key is. One tiny idea: maybe local museums should keep a few old postboxes on streets as little history spots.

Another company is doing it now called DAO is used to be PostNord – its all in the article – the title is misleading

A rare piece of news from Denmark posted in this sub that isn’t about U.S. plans regarding Greenland.

It’s coming for everywhere.
I really noticed it this year with Christmas cards. Even in 2015-2016, we received scores of them- we used to hang the excess ones up on a string as a decoration in themselves, and we would send just as many. This year we sent three cards, received one in return, and that was from an elderly relative.
I don’t receive bills or letters in the post, aside from a handful of exceptional ones like a voting card.
Like cash & newspapers, I think the days of the postman are numbered.

So instead of having a nationalised service delivering letters, they’re going to subsidise a private company that will provide the service?
If it is profitable for DAO, why isn’t it worth while for PostNord?

With just under 6 million inhabitants, it’s feasible. A transition is considerably easier in terms of digitalization. With 83 million, it’s much more difficult and, above all, more time-consuming.

A generation or two too early in Germany, I guess.

I check my mailbox once a month, usually nothing there, so I don’t se the point of anyone trying to deliver nothing every day.

At the same time as this is happening I am also seeing lots of articles about how Gen Z and younger are abandoning digital things in favour of more tactile experiences.
