Imagine if in next 100 years the west is populated by Greeks again and in the east Kirds become majority, geopolitics would be interesting.
European average is boosted by immigration. A more lax immigration policy again would help with that.
Intetesting. What are the major reasons behind this?
Now that they joined “slowly dying out club” we can let them into EU.
every country ‘ll have the same situation, people don’t do kids anymore because don’t believe at the story of “make kids for your country”, people want to be economically stable before have kids and no govern in the world are doing this, and here we are, every country have a low fertility rate now
Turkey is an Asian country. How is it relevant to Europe???
I’m sure reducing interest rates to counter inflation will only improve the birth rate! /s
Turks have had european-level fertility rates for many years already, what changed now is that the kurdish fertility rate has lowered a lot in the last 5 years, and they are the ones that kept the national average up for a long time.
We are in big trouble. I hope this to stop soon.
This ıs also happening under a conservative government of 20 plus years. I cannot a South Korea style TFR of 0.7 or I hope so.
Turk here.
New generations refuse to have kids or have more than one because there is simply no promising future for them.
University degrees and interviews are pointless as only those favorable to regime can get a job with the government and private sector is like shark infested waters, good luck finding job anywhere with such rough competition.
Education quality dropped significantly as Erdo and his gang removed many scientific groundwork such as evolution from state school programs.
Inflation is out of control, money has little value. When Erdo came to power he made lot of money and distributed some to retirees and such which are one of his major voting base but no one questioned where did that money came from; mass privatization of state lands and businesses.
He’s got nothing else to sell other than Unesco protected lands and natural wonders as well as worlds most beautiful scenic areas he wants to open to mining. And he is coping backlash from villagers and opposition for this.
He’s trying to save money from justice system so he declared amnesty and released thousands of violent criminals into society, including rapists and fraudsters.
I could go on with other factors but it would r literally take hours.
Let’s say that if life on this planet was a computer game, Turkey would be a hard level to start.
New generations aren’t stupid, they don’t want to bring children into a life with all these going on.
Then there is the anticipation for doomsday, or kiyamet as we say, it’s the day many expects Erdo to lose the election and stand trial for 20 years of hell, and most of all; trying to destroy Atatürk’s legacy and secularism.
Like many other Turks, I do feel like this is imminent and there will be a reckoning day where secular and progressive people will win and hold these accountable.
I just hope military can resist the urge to act before that and democracy can prevail.
Maybe after that people will decide to have families.
The ethnic Kurdish fertility rate is higher than the ethnic Turkish (see the light and blue-ish areas in the southeast), so the the ethnic Turkish fertility rate may be one of the lowest in the world.
