Three donors made their 500th donations today. That’s an incredible achievement – if each one of them made a double donation every four weeks, which is the maximum, that would still take more than nineteen years. Fair play lads.

In other news, I myself was in the clinic making a donation this evening while this matter was shown on the Six One news. There was an amazing athmosphere in there, with the staff naturally being incredibly excited to feature prominently on the News.

Am I just dumb? I don’t see the actual location for the Cork centre, nor is there a link to the website.

Yes, I will Google it and find it because I care and have done this before when I lived abroad, but it seems like poor or lazy journalism not to give the basic information to make it easier for people to find the right information. They even refer to the website but don’t give a link!

Update: http://www.giveblood.ie is the site, but it appears to be down currently.

There needs to be at least three more clinics opened. Just Dublin and Cork means a huge portion of the country can’t easily donate.
I did it for a few years going to the James clinic, but I was lucky with my work hours.

I asked about donating platelets but unfortunately was told I couldn’t because my father had a heart attack in his 40s. I was surprised they immediately said no with no follow up questions though.

  5. I can’t donate blood or platelets as I’ve already had a blood transfusion, without which I wouldn’t be here. So I do urge anyone who can to please donate.

Donating platelets is huge, people should try it. Unfortunately some people who are accepted initially, can’t keep up with the monthly donations.

When I was a bit fat, my body could handle it, but once I got to a healthier weight, I kept getting turned away month after month because my iron was too low (not to mention midichlorians).

As someone whos benefitted from not just blood donations but platelet donations during my cancer treatment, please think of becoming a donor.
