You know those wintery days, when you leave the house in the morning, it’s cold and dark… and when you get home in the evening, it’s exactly the same.
Well, instead of letting myself down, I decided to dive into something that interested me since childhood. Woodworking.
I made this “sitz bank” for our apartment, right by the entrance where space is very limited. The idea was to have a place where we can put our shoes on, with some extra storage.
Built in my living room, for my first ever project, i think it turned out well.
Long story short, life in Switzerland is stressful, especially in winter. Try to find something that makes you happy and you could do in your free time. The best way to disconnect from “reality”.
Let me know you thoughts about my build.

It’s so nice with the finish on! At first I thought those were your inspirational Pinterest finds, but upon closer inspection, it’s all you! Great job!
I’ve been doing projects in my living room for the past 10 years, as long as your spouse is fine with it, rock on!

Okay I gotta ask, what was the material cost
Because I used to build so many tailored solutions before moving to Zurich, and to my dismay they just recently closed the Jumbo store in Zurich-West, so it’s become more difficult to casually pick up materials for spontaneous projects

This is great! Love that there’s space to vacuum underneath lol. A lot of shoe racks have just a tiny space that ends up accumulating so much dust and other debris from the shoes.

Great work!
I would like to share an advice: If you’re not using already, please start using necessary personal protective equipment (PPE). For example: Wood dust is known to be a human carcinogen. And this is just wood dust. Paint fumes, power-tool noise, and basically anything you work with can pose a risk to your health.
Humans often ignore these risks because they don’t see immediate effect on their health. It’s best to use PPE and stick to safety advices so you can enjoy your hobbies without doing harm to your health. Safety first! 🙂
