I want to remark that Russian military wasn’t very careful even in times when a significant percentage of residents were ethnic Russians.

Nothing really changed in 30 years, but it a completely different story.

Btw, is Ukraine the only country to recognize Chechnya as an independent country?

The chechen wars were extremly brutal and not well known conflicts caused by the russian invasion of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria after its decleration of independence. Grozny was compeltely destroyed to due to constant artillery fire. It was extremly brutal for both sides. Lets remember that while we are celbrating the new year as many chechens and russians did not get to celebrate. War is hell

Invasion? I didn’t think it was possible to invade territory the entire world acknowledged as yours. OP, you are welcome to provide a list of countries that formally recognized Chechnya as an independent state.

With all the respect, a country cannot “invade” into its own province. Ukraine cannot “invade” to Crimea just as Spain cannot “invade” to Catalonia or Canada cannot “invade” to Quebec. Even if that’s a bad thing and the fight for independence, it is called differently.
