Most likely because you open the surströmming outside and also that tin look like it still good, so many youtubers get swollen tins that not even we Swedes would touch.

I think the smell is pretty bad, but you seem to be outdoors. We always open them outdoors but still the smell accumulates indoors and usually lingers in the house for about a day.

As someone who loves surströmming: wholly heck that’s a lot of it for a single piece of bread!

That is a shitload of surströmming at once. Less gives a better balance in taste.

Thank you for doing it properly. Most youtubers have rancid old cans that should be disposed of

  6. This is actually quite genious, not sure why we allways eat it in the summer. the smell must be night and day opening it in freezing temperatures instead of a hot can on a 25C summer day.

We just love it. Smell is bad but you can run it under water when opening.

IPA to surströmming? Not my weapon of choice. I would have picked a lager or something lighter but as we say in sweden: the taste is like the ass; divided.

For once Youtubers are not exaggerating .. the smell really IS that bad. Try opening it up indoors next time 🙂

Nice going to try it! Although you seem to like the taste which is great this seems like very strong sandwhich like others pointed out, there’s A LOT right there and too little extras. I usually say that you don’t eat the fish primarily since so little goes into the sandwhich, it’s the additions that make the meal.

    Some suggestions

Traditionally a hard thin wafer bread(no worries I’m sure that is great when snowed in, you take what you have!)
    Mash potatoes on the bottom(mandelpotatis)
Put on some cream(gräddfil or creme fraiche), with chive and dill
    Add the toppings
    Newly ground black pepper

Additionally, strip the skin of the fishes and use half of what you did right there. Since the fish is very strong salty there’s not much needed to make it balanced.
