They will probably threaten to buy even more American weapons if Trump doesn’t back down.

  3. Zestyclose_Piglet251 on

I think the time for appeasing Trump is slowly coming to an end. If Europe doesn’t make it clear to the US where its red lines are and isn’t prepared to stand up for them, it shouldn’t be surprised if some Americans think that no one will risk standing in their way over Greenland.

That is fatal. If Europeans don’t stand up for their own interests, then they don’t deserve any better.

  4. Bitter_Cake6120 on

On a serious note, I do wonder other than direct military force how the US will go about acquiring Greenland.

For example, will they promise security guarantees and troops on the ground in Ukraine to monitor any ceasefire with Russia in exchange for Greenland? Or is this just gonna be bluster from the US for the next three years?

  5. vincevega87 on

NATO was dead the moment Americans reelected comrade Krasnov. It’s just taken a while for US allies to absorb it.

  6. ExtremeOccident on

I think several European nations should station troops on Greenland. Including the UK, Germany and France.

Danish Euroscepticism (Denmark was a major blocking state of EU military integration) biting Denmark on its ass is interesting.

    Remember, leaders of Europe.

Hitler took Austria and nobody gave a fuck. Then he came for more.

The US will do the same. First Greenland, then Canada, Mexico… who knows.

If we sit still and let them take Greenland without resistance we are fucking toast.

  9. NC16inthehouse on

I think they got information that the US are planning to invade Greenland really soon.

    Meetings, committees, statements…

The only thing the new Fascist America understands is raw power.

Station European troops in Greenland. Move ships and planes there. Maybe some French nukes too.

And announce that the next time Trump opens his mouth about Greenland, the EU will do a coordinated sale of all US bonds and sanction US tech.

When are we gonna find the balls to treat the US as an enemy, and stop pretending there is any regard for international rules?

Denmark literally just re committed to buying more US F-35s. Europe is completely clueless, the only levers of foreign policy they have are strongly worded letters.

Really the only smart play I can see is forming a Greenland militia made up of part timers from the civilian population, and trained in stay behind tactics.

While the upper echelons of the US are now filled with Nazis, there is a lot among the middle especially in the military, that don’t agree with turning on their allies, and still believe in the west as a concept.

The only way the Nazis can easily achieve this annexation, is if its perceived to be buttery smooth *fait accompli,* the idea that US troops would have to ruthlessly suppress, and kill a lot of the civilian population because of a imbedded militia, would be enough to give pause and give internal opponents of the regime ammunition.

It would also increase the odds dramatically of straight refusal from US troops to do the deed.

Can any Danes tell us how the pro-Trump, anti-establishment far right is behaving?

  14. SutttonTacoma on

My advice: reach out, very publicly, to China. Crazy talk requires crazy response.

  15. Can’t some intelligence agency get their hands on the unredacted Epstein files and make it some huge world news?

  16. Open question to all the danish people lurking here : are you willing, as a nation, to fight if it comes to it ? Cause as an European ally, we can’t fight at your side if you are unwilling to.

  17. Havhestur on

I have stuff in the fridge bought when the USA was an ally of Europe.

  18. stealth71_at on

I would be really interested to get a statement of Jens Stoltenberg (Nato General Secretary), how he see’s the threat regarding from US to other Nato members, how it fits into the Nato treaty and its paragraph 5 and finally, how such violation of paragraph 5 by another Nato member”partner” such as the US will be answered.

  19. What if trump plays with Putin so Putin attacks on poland through Belarus and Eu countries support poland with their army’s just so Trump moves troops to Greenland

  20. ProductGuy48 on

Denmark can’t do anything by itself and that also applies to each other European country individually. The opponents of federalism (of which a majority of Danes are) need to look at themselves in the mirror now and tell us with a straight face how a Europe of independent sovereign states still makes sense, and how their “brilliant” 20th century model will solve some of these 21st century problems: foreign aggression, global warming (not the cop out climate change term), mass migration, fallen productivity, increased global trade competitiveness, etc.

    I’ll wait.

  21. andyrocks on

Why isn’t anyone putting a few infantry battalions there? At least make them fight for it.

  22. Expel American troops from all Danish soil immediately. You don’t invite the wolf into the chicken coop

  23. pablo8itall on

So what’s the play by the US here.

Keep moaning that they need Greenland.

Are they going to move military units onto it without informing Denmark, because they already have units there, the place is huge and they could setup more bases I suppose and just say we own it now. That would cause some major face aches for everyone, but could be ignored mostly with diplomatic pressure from Denmark/EU.

If they tried to move military units into Nuuk then the shit would really hit the fan.

Try to setup civilian/military settlements to extract oil (or whatever) would cause a showdown. Less so than an invasion of Nuuk.

Try a little green men approach and would also be a ball ache for everyone.

    Please just die Trump.

  24. People have been saying Ireland is a back door for countries like Russia to attack Europe. Even though Russia doesn’t really have the means to take advantage of that open door.

If America keeps going the way it’s going, they are the real danger. They want to occupy territories closer to Europe while making threats to European democracy. If anyone is going to take advantage of the open door that is Ireland, it looks like it could be the yanks.

  25. Ingestre on

The EU will agree to monitor the situation. If the shit hits the fan, they will write a very angry letter of condemnation.

  26. sorE_doG on

Am I right in thinking that the current arrangement is that the USA can build whatever military bases on Greenland it wants?

This fulfills Trump’s demand wrt national security. Denmark and European partners need to get this simple message across, repeatedly, loudly, and deal with Putin ASAFP.

With the Kremlin Botox fiend out of the way, all the ancient Monroe doctrine bullsh!t evaporates. Make Russia small again, and it falls under the European sphere of influence, not the other way around.

Next time maybe don’t spy for them.

Also hopefully everyone else understands that appeasement doesn’t work.

In order to distract us from the Trump/Epstein files this administration feels a need to be very disruptive. The problem is that the administration is alienating our friends. Thankfully the majority have of us oppose this and we will turn this around. I can only pray that our friends don’t totally abandon us.

  29. I am waiting for the: “France has stationed a single nuke in Greenland”- Headline.

  30. Relative-Ad1383 on

As someone who considers himself right-wing, I’d say we should not give them an inch of Greenland. I think if the EU allows US takeover that will lead to internal issues of social validity for the union. Not to mention if the EU invests heavy in Greenland the potential it could have. Greenland should be defended at the point of bayonet if it needs be.

  31. Mr_Black90 on

Dane here; there’s an interesting thing about where the meeting is being held that I’d like to point out:

Normally, this committee meets in a specific meeting room at Christiansborg, the Danish parliament. No phones are allowed there.

However, this meeting is apparently going to be held in an unmarked maximum security room instead; no outside items of any kind (the journalist who wrote about this phrased it as “not even a coffee cup is allowed”) are allowed in the room, and there are no windows. They’re also meeting much later than normal, at 18:00.

Denmark should start licensing Ukraine drone technology for use in Greenland. The drones have been quite effective against Russia. (I wonder how Eric Schmidt feels about his technology being used against Americans.)

  33. CanoonBolk on

Stop selling Ozempic to America, then. Shit will crash and burn hard

  34. Pervius94 on

Europe will as usual just try to appease Trump. Europe needs to understand that US is a Russian ally now and an enemy to Europe. And those relations will never go back because this is supported by the american populus. What needs to be done is absolutely crush the US economically by selling US debt, abandoning the dollar and sanction the US. But it’ll never happen.

  35. JjForcebreaker on

Out of all things in 2026, Denmark potentially defending against a hostile invasion wasn’t high on my list. It’s doubly surprising considering the extent to which the US is run by various corporations and special interest groups, which know perfectly well what they risk losing in case of any escalation and how important that continent is to them, especially in these potentially extremely volatile times, stock market-wise.

  36. They don’t even need to change official policy, nor engage in rhetoric, just place more troops there, preferably with other European allies, and make the cost too great for an annexation.

Many Americans would support just walking in and taking it if they can do so without any resistance, as they almost can now. But despite the prominence of MAGA cultists there are also many Americans who aren’t soulless enough to want to kill innocent people just to expand the empire, even if the administration has zero issues with such cruelty.

So make it costly, and make them have to justify to their voters that killing innocent allies does somehow not make them evil. Many would be swayed by their propaganda algorithms, but making war domestically unpopular is the best approach, even historically.

  37. MerryWalker on

Denmark and the rest of NATO needs to start having private discussions with democratic states about providing legally appropriate support for direct action to indict Trump and the Republican Party with the support of the federal military. America is not their enemy – the compromised Trump faction is the joint enemy of the entire world, and decisive action is necessary and overdue.

  38. Bill_Troamill on

We must begin to phase out the use of all US and Chinese technology in Europe. European digital sovereignty is essential.

  39. greenland and denmark should give free military access to u.s. troops and tell them they can build as many american bases as they want where they want. At that point if the u.s. really wants security they have security, but if they want access to resources for their companies to extract and profit from they need to throw the mask.

if they just tell the u.s. “this will be the end of nato” the u.s. response will be “so we take greenland and we also get the other thing that we want for free? let’s do it now”
