  1. IMO they shouldn’t have even entertained the thought to subsidize farmers even more

    45 billions??

That’s half the amount of support promised for Ukraine over the next two years. What the actual fuck.

Seriously, fuck this lady. She still has trump on her breath from their last meeting, disgusting…

When the ruskies come we’ll send farmers on tractors to throw tomatoes at them.

Can they just buy out the farmers already? Sure, give them the billions, but then take their land. Most likely government controlled agriculture is not ideal, as with any planned economy, but at least it’s no change to the status quo and we can stop this facade.

More subsidies for farmers ! Less weapons ! More pensions ! Less housing for young people !

next time I won’t be voting for Ursula.

45 billion of our tax money is insane, especially since farmers already get a lot. We need democratically elected leaders so we can vote out people like her!

    Typical situation
““We are eating into the flexibility reserve even before starting the MFF,” Eulalia Rubio, senior research fellow at the Jacques Delors Institute and the CEPS think tank, told Euractiv. “

This is just a shortcut. Add to Mercosur a clause asking their products to follow the same rules as the ones in the EU

It’s insane the amount of power that is given to one whose ass is rusted to a tractor seat.

The correct thing to propose would be reforms that incentivize small farmers merging their businesses. Of course they cant be competitive if you have thousands of farming businesses with a few acres of land.

We need to cut farmers’ subsidies, urgently. The small farmers always put in front during protests benefit least from any subsidies, and the whole sector produces a lot of stuff which cannot be said to be of strategic value, e.g. endless milk and beef, where the fodder comes from LatAm in the first place anyway.

Billions for a sector which is in its current form irrelevant, but the money comes from productive workers and companies, and the states have constraint budgets with a lot more relevant investments, too.

    Cut. That. Grease.

For once the farmers arent wrong. The Mercosur deal is the problem.

  14. RedBaret on

Can’t these farmers just fuck off for once instead of putting their interests before that of the other 98% of the population?

  15. This is not how you manage to get them to stop whining in the future

“The same amount as in the previous seven-year period or there is no agreement” – greetings from Macron and Tusk.

I don’t understand why this is being done.
Farmers are not asking for more money.

They are simply asking that the standards they must comply with also apply to all food imported into the EU.

Why is this so hard to do? Why does she prefer to spend €45 billion instead of simply enforcing EU laws on everyone, and not only on EU farmers?

    Where is the catch?

  18. BaddonAOE on

If she proposes that it means that the deal is currently stuck.

A bribe. Call it what it is. Its a bribe to calm them down.

  20. Putaineska on

If you think this is bad what about when the EU starts the Ukraine accession process and there is a flood of Ukrainian grain

    Unlock ?

If we have that much unused money, maybe you should give it back to the contributors instead of buying temporary relief to impose destructive deals
