On the one hand its a ‘duh’ thanks ‘captain Obvious’ moment, on the other one its good to have our leaders acknowledging the new reality and preparing their constituents for the consequenses.

The US likely wants to mine rare earth on Greenland to stop depending on China for that. We need the same.

Now, Trump is doing what Trump do, trying to reach his objectives in the worst possible way imaginable, but the objective itself isn’t stupid.

So couldn’t we just accept to mine rare earth somewhere? Anywhere? Maybe we could just mine it ourself in Greenland and sell it to the US.

It’s worse than that. They are turning towards use with their weapons raised. It’s insanity.

We need something much stronger from the French President, maybe it’s time to deploy nukes in greenland which definitively belongs to EU culture of freedom of -the people- (who would want to join the U.S & Trump degeneracy anyway ? “Greenlanders: 6% of those polled said they were in favor, and 9% were undecided, according to the poll conducted by the Verian agency.”)

Average European: US is “turning away” from everything normal and becoming fascist.

The question is now what are European countries going to do about Trump’s behaviour? There is an urgent need to unpick 80 years of interdependence and free Europe of reliance on American security infrastructure. That can only be a good thing for Europe as long as our leaders step up to the challenge and they are not replaced by Putin puppets before it can be done.

There are already a handful of Eastern European states that have been captured by the Putin/Trump axis. Fortunately they are not the key players.

However if the far right take France, Germany or the UK Europe is going to be carved up. Trump has no interest in Europe but Putin does. Farage and Le Pen would sell out Ukraine and the rest of Eastern Europe to Putin in a heartbeat.

Donald Trump and his cronies, not the US. In fact his supporters make up roughly 30%. Many of us hate him and his administration and I hope they live the most unpleasant lives in the future. Basket of deplorables is an understatement.

And yet they won’t do anything except maybe a strongly worded letter. Haven’t learned how to handle a bully.

US is the new Nazi Germany.

Stop the damn theater and accept the truth, and communicate it to every European.

Some will choose to collaborate with the Nazis, some will choose to fight back no matter what.

He’s right. The next president may be more friendly towards Europe but what about the president after that?

Cannot rely on them. It’s a cult of personality, not a system of rules, alliances and structure.

    I am so confused.

    What allies?

I thought as of today, the US has Israel as its single ally.

What other country trusts America right now?

Everyone agrees that Europe needs strategic autonomy, but can European countries be expected to seriously work on it, make sacrifices for it, and overcome their historical, ethnic, and cultural differences? Strategic autonomy isn’t something that happens with the snap of a finger. Trump deserves all the criticism he gets, and the US can be criticized for being an unreliable partner. But what will Macron actually do about it? He has the power to influence European and even global politics, so he has absolutely no excuse to just say, “The US is turning away from us, I won’t do anything about it, my job here is done.”

  13. DaZMan44 on

Lol. The US operating government is full fascist right now.

The problem is, Trump is getting a taste for this military might drug now, just like Putin did.
Defence spending goes up from 1 Trillion to 1.5 Trillion the day after Venezuelan attack

You can’t tell from one day to another to people that “ho it’s a treason”. It take time. Glad it happens.

  17. whooo_me on

“Turning away” meaning actively and repeatedly threatening?

  18. o-Themis-o on

How many times do they want to repeat the same thing over and over again? It became clear that the US was no longer an ally the exact second Trump was re-elected. Why are European leaders struggling so much to take action rather than just stating the obvious?

  19. BadAsBroccoli on

We don’t need allies, we have Trump and Stephen Wormtongue whispering in his ear.

  20. romanohere on

Americans are copying Europeans of the 1920s, we got our share of fascism/Nazism, now they do

  21. amcape30 on

America are showing their true colours under the Trump regime. Trump can be bought and all those around him are the same. Europe have soot by America as steadfast allies for many years, but now America are showing to be just like Russia. Shame on you!!!!!

  22. crisco000 on

Yup and I’m ok with it. You guys don’t need us and we don’t need you. We can still trade though. And if you don’t want to do that anymore, thats ok too. Best of luck!

  23. bandita07 on

Another successful russian psy op? The Brits left the EU due to them and now the US is leaving the democratic world. Who will benefit from this? I guess pootin and the other authoritarians

  24. alba_Phenom on

Macron is turning into the only European leader with some balls in his last year, who would have thought it.

  25. Sensitive-Cat-6069 on

Dude has like an 18% approval / 77% unfavorable rate in his own country, but always finds time to lecture others.

  26. helena-dido on

US have been telling Europeans “strengthen your military” for two decades. Europe became free rider, with obligations to defend it, but with pretty weak mutual benefits for US. Many European don’t want to fight even for Europe, and expect that US will fight not like together back to back with them, but *instead* of them. On top of this, European cannot stop to finance russia – it’s 4th year of war, but Europe still only promises to cut gas, oil etc, somewhere in the future <put here very distant year>, while in fact Europe is top importer of russian LNG, and buys russian oil products through India

Macron and France never waste an opportunity to stand on a pedestal while doing nothing.
