This is definitely a worrying trend coming from the US
Who cares what they think
>“When you’re friends with another nation, you have to be honest with your friends and say we’re concerned with what they’re doing; we’re concerned with the path they’re taking,”
-If I had a “friend” who was banning other friends from going out in public, dehumanising my other friends, barged into a nursery, beat up a bunch of toddlers, abducted their teacher and worst of all had dozens of independent child-rape allegations. Then I wouldn’t be telling them “I am concerned with the path they’re taking” tffs
Add it to the list of things they’ll be “monitoring”.
It seems so meaningless and token in the face of what continues to be the US mutating into an outrageous and depressing destructive force, but what else can a politician say?
Trump is a toddler with a shotgun; he wields enough executive power that I don’t blame any politician keeping their head down & saying as little as possible. What else can be done? The US President is literally threatening to invade an EU nation’s territory, we’re past the rubicon here.
Trump is a fucking moron.
If I was his family I’d be pretty frightened at this stage.
A lot of anger building up in America at present due to that person being shot yesterday.
The downfall has begun…..
I saw this quote from an anonymous source (probably Karl Rove) in the W. Bush administration doing the rounds it seems apt:
*”You believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.. That’s not the way the world really works anymore. We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do”*
Im sure you’re the woman for the job Helen. Sort them out.
I just can’t believe how much FF and FG are screwing us over *yet again* – this time with their refusal to plan for the retreat of globalisation.
It became clear 10 years ago that the era of globalisation which in many ways has benefited Ireland was ending, yet FF and FG have continued sticking their heads in the sand as we became increasingly economically dependent on the US. We are now the most vulnerable country in Europe to US-led global chaos, due to a near non-existent domestic economy.
We urgently need to focus on using our massive economic reserves to build up our domestic economy with lower input costs (better infrastructure, free universal public services, reduced input costs from energy/insurance/banking/internet) and increased grants for startups etc. pretty much the only thing FFG got right in many ways was creating a highly-educated workforce, but that came at the expense of trades (worsening the housing crisis and other infrastructure) and is semi-pointless as they made our country so shite to live in that half of those highly-educated young people flee to a country which doesn’t treat young people with so much disdain.
We urgently need to have more independence and autonomy! Until then, our government will be too scared to say anything more than ‘we are deeply concerned and are monitoring the situation’.
What he’s trying to do is pressure NATO members to keep pushing up their military spending. He will eventually settle for an expanded military presence in Greenland.
Disclaimer: this is my own personal analysis, not an endorsement or reprieve for Trump’s antics. Do not come at me.
Maduro is a dictator and America is a rogue state led by a want to be dictator with a golfing obsession. Both things can be true at once.
