      That would be savage

      If it destabilised confidence in US bonds it could potentially bankrupt the US. The only reason its able to borrow such vast sums is because its status as the defacto world reserve currency garrantuees stability and very low interest rates on US borrowing.

      All of their government borrowing is fundamentally built on the assumption that this will never change on anything but the longest timescale. If US bonds were suddenly seen as dangerous or low value it would drive up the interest rates they have to pay on them to utterly unrepayable levels. The damage would be vast.

      EU selling US debt would be nuclear, and it should go for it. The US is not our ally anymore.

      This nonsense again? No, we’re not causing a global financial crisis with some dumbass kamikaze attack against the us debt. Forking over a measly 90 billion required months of negotiations.

      Edit: and it might not even work, we don’t hold *that* much of their debt

      He’s threatened NATO/Denmark for a year now. Cutting diplomatic ties, full sanctions/total boycott should have happened immediately then. Massive ramping up of defense budgets, kicking the US military bases out of Europe should have happened too. How did European leaders not know the US was effectively run by Putin. That was obvious to me when Trump won in 2016 after losing the election by 3 million votes. I guess Europe really wanted WW3 and a Nazi takeover of the planet.

      If an American soldier kills a Dane in Greenland, the counter battery fire will be that sell off. One doesn’t hold the bonds of an enemy country. Trade and tourism will be the next to stop. It’s gonna be an economic shitshow for both sides, but c’est la guerre, Monsieur Le Commissaire.

      nah this is the metaphorical nuclear option, this shouldn’t be done unless the US actually militarily invades Greenland and has their military shooting EU citizens. Other than the potential insane ramifications of doing it, its also something you can only do once. If we dump them now what stops them invading Greenland? What stops them invading Norway?
