This is illegal in Ireland. The DPC explicitly advises against CCTV in restrooms and sets a very high bar for any potential justification, emphasizing that the interests of individuals must be protected.
You can safely forward to the local Garda station. They are almost certainly placing the cameras on a “legal by proxy” basis. The cameras for example are allowed on entrances but they are putting them at the entrance of a toilet seat, if you get me.
It’s stupid behavior at best, very possibly malicious. Somebody with enough legal resources could rip them off in court.
Is there a sign informing you that there is cctv in operation and why? I’d report it. If it’s been approved for use then they have nothing to worry about. If they don’t meet the requirements it will be removed or a sign will go up.
