Whilst this is a welcome commitment from the UK, it’s sad that it has taken so many Ukrainian lives and the prospect of losing US military capabilities for the UK to announce this competition now, with an imminent closing date less than a month away, and barely a year to develop and deliver the missiles. I hope this doesn’t go the way of projects like the HS2 high speed rail, which British national projects have been wont to do in recent decades. Unlike the HS2, the Ukrainians cannot afford delays and the Treasury cannot afford another project with ballooning costs. If the UK had only taken national defence more seriously, they would be sending the missiles rather than announcing the competition now, but being late is better than never, I guess.
