“I would say from America’s perspective … nothing is off the table when it comes to free speech,” Rogers

Yep, hate, harassment, discrimination, child porn – nothing is off the table for them indeed.

I wonder if their opinion would change should X be flooded with their kids as main inspiration for Grok? Probably not.

X like any other international business needs to operate within the laws and regulations of the territories they operate. Nothing is forcing X to offer services to Europe, but if they wish to continue, they need to comply with local rules.

The US State Department doesn’t get to dictate terms to Europe on what X is allowed to do here.

  3. It’s time for Europe to take a firm stance and ignore the screeching coming from the US. Otherwise we’re just vassal states.

The U.S. goverment we mostly see or here from these days, seems like a fucking mad house from an ousiders perspektive.

We know they’re happy about the abuse of little girls and women. Release the Epstein files, they must have redacted Trump’s name by now.

Here’s the thing… once the backing down starts, it doesn’t stop. Is the UK better off without Musk’s poison? Yes. Even if the US sanctions the UK? Also yes. Give in now, and you’ll be giving in forever.

    The American government defending CP.

That is what this is about.

  8. Poor little baby musk that need the help from government to defend himself.

    The irony for a libertarian

  9. This, coming from the country that forcibly bought up TikTok, right?

Honestly just giving starmer the ammo he needs to pull away even more aggressively from the US and towords the EU/china

  11. I work in schools.

I went out of my way over the last few days to ensure that our kids can’t get on X or Grok.

Our marketing department had already swore off everything “Twitter” when it was taken over.

The USA just demanding appeasement from all their former allies. As a Canadian this is very worrisome for me because the USA has clearly demonstrated their commitment to controlling the entire continent and creating an unassailable Fortress America. There are fast becoming three major zones of influence; The Western Hemisphere ruled by USA, Europe and Northern Asia ruled by Russia, East and South Asia by China. The Old America is dead and gone and even if elections are won in the midterms, Democrats are cynical enough to let Trump and the republicans take all the heat for expanding the American Empire so they can enjoy the benefits.

“Nothing is off the table”. What, are they going to invade us too and kidnap Starmer?

  14. AdhesivenessFun2060 on

The UK will back down claiming some sort of compromise. Musk won’t hold up his end and they’ll do this same song and dance next year. All to appease America.

Need that NAZI shit working. Canada chickens out of policing it too.

Honestly nothing of value would be lost if it was blocked from Europe.

The UK isn’t attempting to regulate and/or ban twitter because it has become an unapologetic sewer of nazi propaganda (though arguably they probably should), but because it now has tools that can take a random photo of my 12-yr-old niece or my neighbour’s little girl and undress her.

Leon has denounced this as “fascism”, which is odd because he is demonstrably a fan of fascism. I really don’t understand what’s happening any more.

Stand firm guys, you gotta cut this cancer out of your country once and for all (take it from someone who is on a burning, sinking ship)!

  19. FlakTotem on

And all the UK’s right wingers – who have spent decades complaining about ‘sovereignty’ are of course up in arms about it!
… oh wait. of course they’re not.

Since when do a country’s agency feel free to threaten another (ally) country over a software?

Poor baby Elon needs help from the government. He’s such an assisted needy baby

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of consequences. Call me old fashioned, but I think ai generated deep fakes and child porn should be a line in the sand. But what do I know.

  23. einsgrubeir on

Historically every democracy has placed limits on ‘speech’ when it becomes systemically harmful rather than merely offensive. Dealing with this is now not about free speech it’s about guardrails that prevent it’s becoming a weapon against polity itself.

Of course Trump’s State Department would advocate for the ability to create CSAM. What lowlifes
