As of January 16, 2026, around 300 high-rise buildings in Kyiv still have no heating. In these conditions, people are forced to survive in their own apartments: sleeping fully dressed, keeping warm under blankets, and finding any way to charge their phones or cook hot meals.

The city has set up over 1,200 warming centers, where generators provide heat, people can charge their devices, and psychological support is offered. But for residents on upper floors without working elevators, simply reaching these centers can be impossible.

Despite the cold, exhaustion, and uncertainty, Kyiv endures thanks to mutual help, supportive neighbors, and the daily efforts of those keeping the city running.
