Canada has drawn up plans to send a small contingent of soldiers to Greenland for military exercises with other NATO allies in the face of threats from U.S. President Donald Trump to acquire the semi-autonomous island controlled by Denmark, two senior government officials say.
The officials told The Globe and Mail that the Canadian Armed Forces is awaiting final political approval from Prime Minister Mark Carney before the soldiers are flown to Greenland.
The Globe is not identifying the senior officials, who were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.
We’re so used to American tariffs we feel left out.
I assume they are very aware that if Greenland falls Trump will likely look at them next.
This is interesting, tbh. Unlike EU which is way more diversified in terms of export locations, Canada isn’t. For instance, 20% of the total EU exports go to the USA. A significant number but not a majority while around 77% of Canada’s exports go to the USA which makes Canada’s export route quite linear. I wonder how will this work out, Ngl
Canadian here- Yes we should send troops to Greenland.
If Trump takes Greenland, Canada is next.
Greenland would probably accept being part of Canada. Just join as part of NL and Labrador.
Would be fun to watch Trump after Carney announces it.
Canada in EU, when?
This is so damn moving. A few days ago 8 european countries sent miiltary personel to Greenland, without knowing how angry Trump would become about it, or that he would hit them with tariffs. Had they known, they would probably have done nothing.
Now Canada is deliberately entering the pit, knowing that it will face Trump’s wrath. So fucking moving.
Please Canadian brothers, give us some of your spine. European leaders are without any. All 27 of them

let’s be honest, Carney is not going to do this.
the first Canadian to ~~go to~~ ‘near’ the moon is coming up on Artemis II in a couple weeks, and trump will send him home if we misbehave at this point.
He can also send the Delta operators to kidnap all the players for our six World Cup matches and make them play in Florida. It’s not a good time for us to be making symbolic gestures.

Canada can do a lot just by not allowing US military to fly through their airspace en route to Greenland.
The best show of solidarity is to cancel every single F-35 purchase and buy European jets instead.
