6 years ago, “Abolish the police” was trending too because of the George Floyd murder but when actually put to a vote in Minneapolis, crashed and burned with the majority of voters and the vast majority of non-white voters, who were ostensibly the population being served by the motto.

Right now, ICE’s excesses has rightfully driven a lot of anger at the agency, and perhaps it may indeed end up dissolved and a new agency put in its place for immigration enforcement (just as the INS was dissolved in 2001 and replaced by ICE). But I think, more likely, that people are going to start responding to calls to “abolish ICE” with “wait, so does that mean no immigration enforcement whatsoever?” and, like with “abolish the police” and “defund the police”, the median voter will remember that they do want illegals removed, they just don’t want to see what removal looks for and will vote out any politician who expressed support for “abolish ICE”.

The Intercept, of course, will continue to blame Democrats for the American voter creating specific incentives for the politicians they elect, as their purpose is to bash democrats in service of the fringe online communities they are part of and the foreign powers (I’m guessing Russia based on their past behavior) that fund them.

Les leftists des us aiment bien pas voter pour les democrates et les blamer ensuite de leur inaction (alors que du coup ils ont pas le pouvoir d’agir)
