Si chiamava Il Club dei Marinai. Parte dei locali di Cardy Marina nel porto di Balbriggan. Inaugurato nel 1973 con abbonamento annuale di £ 5 all’anno. Il proprietario era Gary Healy.

Sembra molto stile Celtic Tiger e molto in anticipo sui tempi.

In seguito fu conosciuto come nightclub Rig/O’Sheas/Home /Life/Bed e l’edificio fu demolito nel 2021.

Skerries – the next town down – had a large cinema, swimming pool, hotel, and a roller disco.

These days it has nothing but notions.

God I remember it as Home, it was the old swimming pool wasn’t it?

  3. Learned to swim in that pool circ ’87.

As a kid I was fascinated with the place as bar/restaurant had large water tanks full of exotic fish
Seemingly it never really was successful as a marina as the harbour is too tidal.

Wouldn’t have thought swinging was a big thing back then?

Tell me more about this colour television. Does it just show colours in a loop, or are different colours on different channels?

Class. I wonder if this is one of the ‘Bona fides’? Or would that be considered too far to drive out of Dublin in those days

How much chlorine are they putting in that pool? Because it’s probably not enough

That. Looks. Class. Look at that list, it ticks every box of what a man was supposed to be doing in the 70s

Very similar to the Lepordstown racecourse sports and social club on the south side. Pool, gym, squash courts, bar and a nite club. John Kenny from d’unbelievables used to sing ballads in the bar before he was famous.

Any idea if the population decline could be partly due to the fun places in towns being shut down?

I guess it’s more a cost of living and cost of doing business crisis but…

I’m not from here but back home (in NL) I heard my parents say that the most fun nightclub they went to was in some random town which has nightclub branded busses going to and from every city and town nearby to pick people up and drop them off. They would also start drinking at this club as the beers were cheap. Along with that, they semi regularly rented out a small club room in the city to have their own private party.

Growing up, I’m 24 now, I’ve never heard of a night club branded night bus! No night club exists in pretty much any town nearby where they said they went out. The only place you can go now is the big city. Even the big city barely has night busses going to the towns nearby. You also have to pre-drink or a night out will cost you € 100.
