Not sure how you would have free travel besides walking everywhere? You still need to pay for trains, busses, flights, car fuel, etc.

I wouldn’t call the ICE a bullet train either.

Hospital/healthcare isn’t paid from your income tax, you pay extra for health insurance.

The parental leave sounds a bit high compared to what my coworkers have done but no idea.

Never been unemployed so not sure if you make 60% of your old salary.

On paper. What you can do still heavily depends on who your parents are.

no this is wrong at all
you pay health insurance its not free you got one year per child otherwise the Money gets cut from 60% Former Job to 30% for 2 Years or 15% for 3 and so on

Yeah, you also have “unlimited” sick days unlike the USA for example which has vacation days and so called sick days. But if you are sick for over 6 weeks then you only get 70% of your salary since its not the employer paying you from that point but the health insurance

Also we have atleast 20 vacation days per year by law but having 30 days is very common

  5. Income tax is not 42%, its up to 42%.

    Unemployment is indeed 60%.

Parental leave of up to three years but not on full salary.

    Education is generally free.

Kindergeld is 259 Euros per month but daycare can cost hundreds if available at all.

“Free travel”? The Deutschlandticket costs 63 Euros per month and can be used on regional trains/busses.

Hospital is covered by health insurance but you have to pay 10 Euros per day.

    Highways are safe/

The german high speed trains aren’t bullet trains.

    1. Not the government, the tax payers do via the insurance system.

    2. Yes.

    3. Kinda.

    4. Yes.

    5. Free travel? You mean like you don’t have to pay? LOL no.

    6. You pay with your taxes, so like number 1.

    7. Very safe, especially to the hellish chaos of India.

    8. The ICE is not a bullet train. Bullet trains have separate tracks and often move much faster.

  7. Income Tax isnt this high, it is more like 25% in the Median income. But there is 14% health insurance, 2,6% Unemployment insurance and 18,6% Pension insurance (those 3 are paid halt by the employer, which makes it look less but it needs to be paid anyhow).

So after all, it feels like half is taken from your salary. And there is an always the discussion if the money ist spent efficiently, pension insurance and health are huge topics.

Most of it. However travel is not free. It’s 49,99€ per month and bullet trains (ICE) are not included. Bit it’s very nice to be able to just go to the train station and go wherever you want

-Around 60% of NET for one year
-3 years with maximum 24 months paid (900€/month for 24 months, higher rate if you take less and 900 is the max you can get depending on your income)
-Education is free until High School. Administration fees apply for University (not too high, around 500€/semester)
    -259€/month as off January
    -Free travel is wrong
-Free hospital, yes kinda. We’re still paying health insurance
-Safe highway? Sure it’s not bad at all
-No bullet train. But overall clean and modern, always late

Anyone correct me if I’m wrong with anything

  10. horaison_kik on

Oh don’t tell me how many times these ragebait videos of „free health care“ I have seen. I am like do these people never see their salary slip or what? These people I tell you!

  11. mythorus on

It’s not quite correct. The 42% is kind of an average that is deducted from your salary. And parts of it go into health insurance (that’s free health care), parts go into other social security areas, and you have income tax.

But bottom line, it’s not wrong in terms of the idea. We are having a comparable high tax and insurance burden, but we are getting also a lot from it, everyone.
