Why did the Russian mother flee the war in Ukraine to Ireland? Why not go back to Russia?

This case is utterly horrific an eight year-old stabbed more than 70 times and nearly killed by her own mother is unimaginable. She should never be anywhere near her daughter again.

What an absolute tragedy, thank God the child survived. The woman is found guilty, and will be rightly subject to sanction, but reading the details you do wonder if she had, had more intensive mental health care things might never have ended up like this.

Why does it seem like there are so many cases of children bring murdered by their parents in the news recently (or in this case attempted murder) or has it always been like this, we are just hearing about it more now?
