Aren’t they capitulating and agreeing to ratify the trade deal between US and Euro? How is that any different??

  2. EquivalentKick255 on

Don’t the EU leaders need to ask the rest of Europe also?

or is it, “This was the moment EU leaders agreed the EU must go it alone”

  3. Amazing-Heron-105 on

Nice to read some hopium. Let’s hope we start seeing action that backs up these words.

I really wish we could just sever all ties with the yanks. Words can’t describe how much I detest that fascist country and its ignorant, stupid, fascist people right now.

    K. Now cancel all the orders for US military equipment and focus on EU alternatives. Prioritise EU research and development on this front. The quicker, the better. And let’s get that EU army going for fucks sake.

Also, let’s start killing the literal Trojan Horse that is the US military bases in our countries. America is no longer to be trusted. I think the mere threat of that may force the US to act to try to salvage the relationship, with or without Trump.

For the amount of time he has left in power and on Earth, let’s stop pandering and beating around the bush and treat him like the psychopathic, demented, odious, bullying and downright evil piece of shit he is. Appeasement never worked and never will. With no one. Ever.

Trump alone has done irreparable damage to the trust and reliability the US once had. Even after he’s out of presidency (if he doesn’t Reichstag fire himself into permanent power), we can no longer make long term commitments with them. The seeds have already been sown and God help us all if an odious person like Trump, but actually competent comes into power.

They have 0 incentives to do anything because their electorates will outright refuse the cost burden involved in truly becoming strong and independent from the US, so they will vote them out if they actually try to do anything.

No it wasn’t, no they didn’t agree, and they wont. Everything else is hopium, sorry that’s reality.

When even *Politico* takes a break from sucking off Conservatives to focus on a historical moment, the last idiots will truly have seen the light.

Thats a huge increase in defence spending. Like hundreds of billions. Moving farming subsidies to defence type situation

  10. First picture unrelated? Because those two continue to suck up to Trump.

Edit: What’s so hard to understand?

Leaving the United States behind is more than abandoning a partner; it’s fighting against the imposition of international corporate fascism.

  12. Limesmack91 on

Meh, the immediate threat is gone so most political leaders are now thinking “thank god, now we don’t need to actually go through with it”.
Big chance nothing will actually come of this “European army” talk of a few days ago

  13. Did they? I’d be not so sure.

Europe seems to have a Stockholm syndrome over the US admin.

Europe has the strenght to push back. Economic and military. Even as Europe wanta a good relationship with America, they should always stand firm and honest.

The stronger Europe stands against Trump, more they support anti-authoritarian population of the US, which is still a majority.

  14. Orlok_Tsubodai on

In theory, maybe. Let’s see how far they actually go in practice. Already the Council and Commission leadership is trying to push the US-EU trade deal through again. All Trump needs to do is say one or two comforting words and we fall over ourselves with gratitude, ready to keep giving our leverage away.

Who would have thought that the French were right all along?

  16. zanzara1968 on

No, it isn’t. It’s business as usual, they want to keep exporting cars, drugs, fashion and food to that beautiful fat american market.

  17. Striking-Access-236 on

When enough people in Europe focus more on Europe with their wallets the politicians will follow as well, including the military…enough is enough, we’ve been an american colony for far too long now, having their foreign troops and nukes on our land that we can’t even control, been forced to send our boys and girls to die in their imperialistic wars from Korea to Afghanistan, etc.

  18. Impossible-Strike-73 on

Can’t help thinking we thought the world would become more and more civilized. Time to accept it is not.

  19. CopperThief29 on

It wont be easy. The thing is, even if we dismiss the usual dinamics of country electorate over union, detatching from the US wont happen overnight.

Its been decades of alliance and relying on american support and companies for a lot of stuff, even managing our own money.

Not that we really have a choice, but cutting all ties tomorrow isnt feasible.

  20. Known_Potential4635 on

Now we only have to wait for the wake-up call and it will all be ok.

We heard the same thing earlier last year. Very few things are gonna change unfortunately
