È tempo di estendere l’UE fino a trasformarla in un’Unione democratica, militare ed economica, che includa Canada, Giappone e Australia

Yes. It shouldn’t be based on geography but values.

  2. zyztlkrw9 on

EU but make it Avengers maple shields, anime diplomacy, kangaroo cavalry.

  3. FinnMcKoolio on

We’d be potentially dragged into a war with China if its extended to Japan.

  4. ziegfried35 on

What a way to water down the Union. Yet again, the English don’t understand the EU.

  5. traumalt on

Knowing Aussies and Canadians, they will never allow for unrestricted freedom of movement, they have way too much to loose from those deals.

  6. Pure_Cantaloupe_341 on

Japan allowing unrestricted migration and near-citizen rights to hundreds of millions of people from the other side of the world? That’s just lol

  7. Irazidal on

More than one organization can exist at the same time. Why not just have the EU make deals with these nations instead? We’re already having enough trouble getting everyone on the same page and pursuing closer integration without spreading the concept even thinner.

  8. Acrobatic_Pianist_52 on

Can’t even unite France and Germany over the most basic shit but this is going to happen LOL

  9. Asleep-Ad1182 on

Japan and Australia both value sovereignty highly for good a reason, so this will happen in a million years.

  10. Birdmonster115599 on

    Ehhhh.

As an Australian, I love the EU, you guys are great.

But I mean, CANZUK isn’t going to work because to geography and industries. I really don’t think this will.

I mean, I don’t think, should China decide to actually start throwing its military weight around in a hot way, that the EU is really going to be sending ships, jets and troops to the Pacific.

I don’t think the EU wants to take on that sort of commitment. Maybe the attitude is different in the EU and I am wrong about that.
But I dunno, I just don’t see the EU wanting to be involved in this side of the world too much.

A bit of a eurocentric perspective. What’s in it for Japan in particular? We aren’t going to protect them like the US does. While we have a path towards sovereignty without the US, Japan does not. And Canada and Australia can’t afford to go all in on the EU either. They can become our partners in certain areas, but they will always have to hedge and build relationships with other blocks as well

  12. Even closer European integration is a challenge. Wouldn’t it be way wiser to focus on that before ambitiously incorporating countries at the other side of the earth, with very different geopolitical interests, even if ideologically similar? A union such as this would definitely be cool, but not at all realistic or pragmatic

This is a dumb ass idea. Increased cooperation and alliances, sure. EU membership? Idiotic.

  14. Laniel_Reddit on

The EU doesn’t have the capability to defend these other countries at this time, so it would be strange to have security guarantees for them against US/China

  15. Darjuz96 on

The issue is the our right-wing movements. In germany is tie with CDU, in UK the Reform leads and with the stupid FPTP system they may obtain the absolute majority in the HoC. In France, same.

  16. Forsaken-Link-5859 on

Hell no, already too much problems with EU. Less is more. Alliances yes, union no!

  17. berejser on

DU doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. Can’t we just expand the definition of what constitutes Europe until it compasses the free world?

  18. Beyllionaire on

    Japan??? Lmaoooo

Japan (like South Korea) is a complete American lapdog, they’ll always choose america over Europe. Japan can rearm only because the US is turning a blind eye to it

  19. Zealousideal-Key2398 on

Why? Why make it an economic union where Canadian and Australian tax money go to unelected bueracrats in Brussels they have never heard of? This sounds like colonialism where colonies send money to the empire! Surely military alliance is enough

  20. aaargh68 on

We (Canada) actually share a border with Denmark and France.

  21. Darkone539 on

You can make trade deals and defence allies without becoming a union.

I always thought NATO should be expanded to include all the free democracies of the world. It’s charter won’t allow that though so it was always going to be something else.

I always assumed America was going to be the nation to bring those nations together. Never thought it’d be in opposition to America. Sorry from an American.

  23. GalaXion24 on

I do think a federal Europe and a broader confederation of the free world could be a good combination. I think sacrificing the ambition of a European great power for a broader scope would be a bad idea though. At least I do not see us immediately signing the constitution of some non-geographical federation of the free world with a real foreign policy, military power, etc.

  24. newblevelz on

There is 0 chance Japan would enter into EU with the 4 freedoms.

  25. unshavedmouse on

We’re just in the prequel comic to an RTS game, aren’t we.

  26. OrbDemon on

And the UK please, probably Iceland, South Korea and New Zealand too.

  27. Haunting-Detail2025 on

This sub is delusional if it thinks Japan is going to pick the EU over the US

  28. DeRpY_CUCUMBER on

Biden already tried to do this. Macron freaked the fuck out at a symbolic NATO office in Japan. Also macrons constant sucking up to China is not going to bring Asian Allie’s on board. What did he say last year in China? Asian problems are not European problems. lol. Good luck getting Asian partners to join you in any meaningful way.

  29. I have a feeling there will be a lot of opportunities to be had as capital will shift away from US. But it is also likely that there will be some significant pain associated with this shift.

    https://wcpa.ef-gov.org/en/constitution-for-the-federation-of-earth

The Constitution for the Federation of Earth is a proposed governing document developed by the World Constitution and Parliament Association (WCPA) over 33 years (1968–1991) to establish a democratic world government, designed to end war, protect human rights, and ensure ecological sustainability. It creates a federal system where nations become administrative regions under a global authority, featuring a three-house World Parliament.

People making these articles don’t really understand how close Japan is to the USA or how conservative they are. I’m grateful for Japan’s support regarding Ukraine, and we should definitely keep them as allies, but forming an EU-like union with them is just not very realistic (or even a good idea). For most of its democratic history, Japan has been ruled by one party…

  32. Commercial-Ad7119 on

Various phases of interrogation seem to be optimal based on the 3 speed EU model.

Including anyone and everything who upholds the same democratic principles and ideals sounds fair too
