Few months late for that announcement. This has been brewing since last September.

The only thing I hear anyone talking about in British politics these days is avoiding the risk of psychodrama. You’d think we had no other problems

I hate all this drama, but also gives me (slight) hope on this bleak Sunday morning.

I have some issues with Keir, but feel he is a good leader and Labour are best for the country right now. I like Burnham too but wish this wasn’t happening.

We are in a privileged position that this is headline news in the UK; whichever one we get, they are both decent humans.

Voters also won’t tolerate a leader who is historically unpopular and incapable of actually implementing a policy platform. But Mahmood is less concerned about that, I suppose. Rather an ineffectual government under the thumb of the Labour Right than an effective government controlled by someone else.

Says the puppet for Blue Labour , who are responsible for the psychodrama

Indeed. If Burnham becomes an MP, make him Minister for Housing, or Rail Transport Minister, and let’s all watch him work his ‘magic’.

There’s a lot of hot air on the left of the Labour Party that is incompatible with winning elections, but there are a few areas where socialism is still popular…

Off topic but just a reminder that Mahmood said,

“When I was in justice, my ultimate vision for that part of the criminal justice system was to achieve, by means of AI and technology, what Jeremy Bentham tried to do with his Panopticon. That is that the eyes of the state can be on you at all times.”

… and that therefore she should have no place in running this country.

Hopefully Burnham crashes and burns without doing too much damage to Labour and the UK. Seemed to be doing a decent job as mayor but I guess that was only ever a stepping stone for him.

He tried to challenge Starmer at the Labour conference and ended up running away with his tail between his legs.

He may end up handing the constituency seat and Manchester mayorship to ReformUK, and is pointlessly draining money from Labour’s coffers funding this by-election.

Can we go at least one election cycle without a leadership challenge or some other drama?

Can they not find someone who isn’t a wet fart to go up against the ultimate alpha male?

    > The small clique insists that the refusal is down to fears about the cost of having to hold a by-election for Metro Mayor of Manchester should Mr Burnham be permitted to stand for parliament, a by-election Reform UK could win.
